Oxala House – Borneo : Towards Alternative Tourism

This is a two-storey cottage located in a charming residence (Oxala House) with typical architecture (inspired from traditional "Menzels") and an unbeatable view on the eastern costs of Jerba Island, carefully integrated within its natural environment of palm trees, prickly pears, aloes and agaves. The space Our house is ideally situated in the area of Mezraya, between the island’s capital Houmt-Souk (8km, best-known for its traditional souk, its fortress and its silversmiths) and the typical village of Midoun (7km). Oxalá House is located at 700m from one of the nicest beaches of the Djerba island (Tunisia). It is composed of 4 fully/nicely furnished bungalows with cooking facilities and air-conditioning (both cooling and heating), set up around a central swimming pool, and ranging in size from a cozy studio to a spacious three-bedroom cottage. Each bungalow has at least a private terrace with a view on the pool. Oxalá House fully follows the charter for Sustainable Tourism, and actively favors direct contact with local people. The residence only works with local communities and local service providers (housekeeping, child minding, tourist guides, sport discoveries, cultural/theme visits...) who are selected not only for the quality of their services, but also for their integrity and effective willingness to find a trade-off between financial viability and development issues. Jerba is probably the fabled land of the Lotus-Eaters that seduced Odysseus, as narrated in Homer's Odyssey. :) Other things to note There is a little shop at 400m from the residence and a supermarket at 1km (15mn walk). It is very easy to get there either walking or by taxi. Bigger ones are in Midoun and Houmt-Souk (the main town of the island). For your first breakfast, you may take your preferred coffee / tea with you and/or give me a list of the things I can buy for you before your arrival.
