The Smoke House Cabin

You may recognise the cabin from New Lives In The Wild With Ben Fogle who spent a week here. We hope like him, you'll love the tranquility it offers. We made the cabin from a used 20ft shipping container. It’s off grid with simple 12 volt lighting, no WiFi. There’s board games, a wood burning stove, large bed, hot outdoor shower & indoor compost loo. Situated 1/5 mile down a private forest track, surrounded by nature. Leave the hustle & bustle behind & come switch off. Sorry, no dogs The space The cabin is entirely bespoke, we even made the bed. There’s an instant hot shower located on the deck outside with view into the trees whilst the compost loo is inside. We used reclaimed materials to create a rustic space which is not perfect but real. When we built our house we lived in a static caravan with no running water or power. We lived a very basic life, washing and cooking outside and found it an important period to see how little we need in life. We wanted to give people the chance to loose technology for a while and see how nice it can be without but also made it comfortable and cosy. Please Note. Since storm Arwen we have had no less than 3 more severe gales all resulting in the mass destruction of our woodlands. the cabin is now accessable again & we welcome you back. But please try to understand that devastating effects of the storms and our livelihood, though we are working hard to restore the woods, they are not all open for you to wander within in their present state. Guest access The cabin is accessed via a private forest track with only it & our wood yard & our house situated there, so it's very quiet & isolated. Trackside as you pass through our yard will give you a good idea of the destruction we had. With the cabin operational again the yard is our next major project at home. The cabin is situated a short distance from our house, quite private, not at all overlooked. It has it's own parking space & once you're settled in you can relax & enjoy. The cabin is situated within a wood. Also decimated by the storms. We have cleared and replanted that side of the track. If you feel like it, please do Wa see through and enjoy seeing a young wood starting again. The wood on the other side of the track is not safe to walk around yet as we are still clearing up storm damage, so please do not venture in where trees have fallen. There are a great many designated walks & public rights of way in the area, a quick look on the internet or OS map will show you. Other things to note There is no indoor cooking facility within the cabin, although a cool box is provided so you can keep some cold items fresh if you'd like. there is a single gas burner for tea or coffee making only but please no cooking or smoking within the cabin. Tea, coffee, crockery etc is provided. The deck has a bbq (we make our own charcoal & it is available to buy should you like to) & you're very welcome to use it. If it’s very dry please don’t use it, we e suffered enough damage. Otherwise enjoy, just be mindful and don’t leave it unattended. You're also welcome to smoke on the deck just please put your cigarette ends in the ash tray. The Cabin is not fancy hotel experience with all mod-cons, nor is it a glamping experience. It is a comfortable, relaxing, get away from it all, a back to basics place which we hope will leave you feeling rested & maybe even reconnected with nature. We do have chickens which are incredibly social and will come and say hello. The cockerals are in-line any you’ve seen, they’re American Gane and are quite vocal! All the chickens live in the trees, along with red squirrels & deer so keep your eyes peeled.
