Other things to note Briarfold is a seventeenth century stone-built farm cottage typical of the Lake District. In 1948 it was bought by Elsie Thompson who lived there for many years. Since 1971 Briarfold has been used by her extended family and friends and retains much of the atmosphere and charm of a well-loved family home. Elsie was a member of the Society of Friends (Quakers) who have many connections in and around Kendal, hence the number of Quaker books in the cottage. There is also an extensive collection of books, art and items of interest related to the family and the Lake District. Please note this an old property. It has 8 fairly steep stairs and a handrail on the right on the way up.
