A scenic 10-min stroll down a quiet lane via the little harbour brings you to Goleen's 3 pubs (great live music), cafés, and shop. Or turn left at the harbour to walk up onto the cliffs. The space Ostlers' is a generous studio space. The box bed is typically made up as a super king but thanks to hotel quality Respa 'zip and link' mattresses can easily be configured as two generous single beds. Let us know what works best for you in advance. Our bed linen is 100% cotton, our duvets and pillows hypoallergenic. We use the Scandinavian sleeping method: sleep research shows significant improvements in sleep quality for couples using two individual duvets. So we hope your stay will be especially restful. The kitchen is well equipped. The shower room is fitted with a fixed drencher head and a handheld attachment; a backlit condensation free mirror; and premium quality shower gel, shampoo and handsoap, all made with natural ingredients. Outside your front door is your own walled, west-facing terrace looking out towards the hill Knocknamadree. Enjoy a glass of wine at the hardwood table, surrounded by flowers and ferns in terracotta pots. We are 650m from the sea; a quiet lane takes you down to the little harbour, a cliff walk and the village with its pubs, cafés and shop. Guest access Ostlers' is all yours and isn't shared with anyone else. Your terrace is yours alone. You are welcome to explore the rest of our wild garden (very much a work in progress!). There are ponds at the bottom of the garden (rather overgrown, so watch your step) ; and there is a shared fire pit which you are free to use - just let us know so we can make sure there is firewood (small additional charge). Other things to note Beaches There are two standout choices nearby: Ballyrisode - 5 minute drive This is a very peaceful sandy beach with gently shelving sand and usually only small waves. It is ideal for small children. It also benefits from a fantastic wood fired sauna (The Heatshack) run by the brilliant Mikey. Ballyrisode looks pretty spectacular most of the time but the view from inside the sauna is something else. The sauna is open all year so if a winter dip is your thing then this is the place to go. (ii) Barleycove - 10 minute drive This is a completely different type of beach: just as sandy, but long and wide with surf (not always) that attracts surfers from far and wide. It faces pretty much due south so when the sun is shining don’t forget the sunscreen. Three Castle Head The walk at the end of Ireland. When the sun is shining and there is a breeze blowing in off the Atlantic this really does feel like you are an explorer at the end of the known world. High cliffs , crashing waves beneath and the ocean stretching away to the horizon. There are a couple of routes to get to Dunlough Castle - both much of a muchness - but the reveal when you reach the crest and see the castle for the first time is quite something. If you have the energy then is also worth climbing the hill behind the castle for a birds eye view of the Castle and the Sheep’s Head across Dunmanus Bay and the Lamb’s Head yet further north. The Knockaphuca Loop Knockaphuca is the hill you can see when you are standing at the back of the house and looking up to the right. It is possible to walk there from the house . The paths up and down are well marked and the views from the top worth a bit of effort. Along the cliffs at Goleen Harbour Just a few minutes walk down the lane opposite our gate is Goleen Harbour Eco Resort (glamping and a farm). There is a footpath around the cliffs that takes you out and round the side of Goleen Harbour and then along the cliffs facing Roaring Water Bay and the Atlantic. There are great views of the Fastnet Rock and Cape Clear. There is also a swimming spot here off the rocks.
