Description

Shambala is a simple, ocean front beach house in a spectacular location, just footsteps from the sea. This is a breathtakingly beautiful, rural & rustic stretch of coastline, untouched by mass tourism, where the pine covered mountains tumble right down to the sea. Shambala is located on a beach covered in sea washed pebbles and is in the heart of the village. There is a pretty harbour, minimarket, cafe and fish tavern. Pomos is only around 70km drive from Paphos, yet it feels like worlds away. The space Shambala is a detached beach house in a quiet village and sits just 20 meters from the sea. Our beach house is not a luxury villa but it’s clean, comfortable and fully equipped. Please note that Shambala may not be suitable for anyone with limited physical ability due to the large pebbles on the shore and the steep, uneven access on steps and rough ground leading from the house down to the sea. Shambala is not suitable for children under 15 or pets. We really want guests to know exactly what they are booking and to enjoy their Shambala experience, therefore Kindly read the whole description below, house rules and ‘other things to note’ before making a booking. If you have any questions about Shambala please don’t hesitate to ask. The location is nothing short of spectacular. Sitting on the wooden deck watching the sunset and listening the the waves lap on the pebbles is simply magical. Steps lead from the private, undercover parking area to the front door which opens onto the open plan kitchen, dining and living area. Throw open the shutters and bifold doors and you will see and hear the waves crashing on the pebble beach below. The house is simply furnished but fully equipped. Shambala is all about the spectacular location, great energy and outdoor space. However, we do have wifi and smart tv with Netflix and the bedroom has newly installed air conditioning. Doors open out onto the shady palm terrace with dining table for alfresco meals. Most days there is a wonderful sea breeze to keep the house and terraces cool. There’s a sunny spot with bistro table for morning coffee. Rough stone steps lead past the little zen garden and driftwood outdoor shower to the seafront deck where you can watch the most spectacular sunsets over the sea. Upstairs, there are two bedrooms ( second bedroom not made up and used for storing luggage due to no air conditioning) and a small bathroom with shower over the bathtub. The house is really focused on solo travellers and couples, with the master bedroom having dual aspect windows overlooking the sea, so guests can throw open the shutters and hear the waves crashing on the pebbles below. There’s almost always a sea breeze, so if you would like to sleep with windows open and drift off to sleep to the sound of the sea on the pebbles below we have provided a mosquito net for the bed. Although there are two bedrooms, the second bedroom is not made up with linen as we do not let it during summer months as this room has no sea views or air conditioning., There is a kingsize bed and single bed so it’s suitable for older teenagers visiting with parents maybe as we do not accept children. The house is listed as a one bedroom property, please do not book for two bedrooms without speaking to us first. The master bedroom has modern air conditioning and fabulous sea views. Both bedrooms share the bathroom, although there is an additional cloakroom with toilet and basin downstairs. Please note the second bedroom will not be made up and the air conditioning in that room is disabled as standard. Shambala is not a luxury villa, it is a beautifully designed, simple, yet fully equipped beach house. It is designed to make the most of the location and the views and although beach front it is not remote as it is in the heart of the village, with a coffee shop and store within walking distance. The neighbours are mostly local people and a few holiday lets. There is villa two houses down along the beach which is being slowly renovated by the owner. There is a possibility there may be work happening on that house during your stay, but as it has been on and off for years we just are unable to know. Please be aware of this and do not book if you think it may impact on your stay. This is a quiet area and we ask that our guests respect the locals by not playing loud music or causing any type of noise problems for them. Shambala is overlooked from the back but most of the windows, apart from the second bedroom, face the sea and there is only the sea in front. For the cooler months there’s a large log burner and extra blankets & throws for cosy nights by the sea. This is a place for wave watching, star gazing and driftwood collecting, there are Sandy beaches with sunbeds and a beach bar a short walk along the coast. Please note that the large pebbles on the beach directly at the front of the house can be difficult to walk on and we recommend bringing suitable foot ware. The remote and rustic location, the access down to the sea and the large pebble beach means that we have deemed this property unsuitable for children. It’s perfect for solo travellers, couples or friends sharing. Please note that water pressure is sometimes low in the area and there is no power shower. The internet is fast but service can be interrupted on occasion. There is no air con in the second bedroom, but if booked, we can provide a fan. There is a ring camera covering the entrance steps and keysafe only. Please ensure that you read the ‘Other things to note’ section before booking as we want our guests to enjoy their holiday without disappointment. If you are unsure of anything, or need to ask any questions about the accommodation, please do so before booking, I am very happy to answer any questions. ~ Carrie Guest access The whole house is available, with a Shaded veranda and ocean front deck for guests private use. There are 2 bedrooms, but unless specifically requested, only the master bedroom will be made up for sleeping. However, please note that the second bedroom has no air conditioning or sea views and is overlooked. It is intended to use for storage purposes only unless it is specifically booked in advance at an additional cost to cover cleaning & linens. There is a locked cupboard in the second bedroom and in the bathroom for housekeeping. Other things to note Please read this before booking! It is very important that you read this section along with house rules and full description before booking as I really want you to enjoy your stay and to understand the nature of the house, the area and it’s location. If you book this property it is on the understanding that you have fully read the entire description, the house rules and this section in particular. We are open and honest about the quirks of the property and location and will not offer refunds if you book and attempt to claim a refund for something listed here. Pomos is the most remote village in the Paphos district yet only around 70km from Paphos. It is a very quiet village, quite rustic and rural with a pretty fishing harbour, fish tavern and a few small cafes and taverns. Please note that most of these close during winter months, including the beach bar and harbour fish tavern, so can be very quiet, although local store and tavern remain open but on shorter hours. It’s the perfect place for walking, meditation and mountain drives. There are plenty of taverns and more lively bars in Argaka a 10minutes drive away and Polis town, a 20 minute drive. The beach infront of the house is quiet, rustic and has large pebbles and rocks which are difficult to walk on and we recommend bringing water shoes. It is a fantastic place to watch the waves and collect driftwood, there are Sandy beaches a short distance away.. The access to the beach may not be suitable for anyone with walking restrictions as it is loose stones and rough ground with a sloping, uneven access to the sea. The stones move daily with the tide. For this reason we do not accept children under the age of 15. Guests will be asked to confirm that no children will be in their group before arrival. Some days the waves are calm and still, other days the crashing of the waves on the pebbles can be noisy, Personally, I love falling asleep to the sound of the sea, and people even buy machines to hear this sound, but I am aware that it’s not for everyone so need to mention it here. The house is intended for solo travellers or couples sharing one room, however, there is a second bedroom which has no sea views and is overlooked by neighbours. This is NOT made up with linen and not available during summer months as there is no air conditioning. Therefore our prices are based on 1 or 2 people sharing one bedroom. If you do require 2 bedrooms the additional charge of €15 per person, per night will apply to cover laundry, cleaning and electric use in the second bedroom. If you are booking for 2 people but require both bedrooms please book for 3 people, as otherwise only the main bedroom will be made up. Air conditioning is included up to a fair usage allowance, which included being on at night in the bedroom booked. You are very welcome to use additional aircon if you need it, but as Cyprus has very high electricity costs we simply cannot afford to include it if it left on all day.The sea breeze is usually more than enough during the day. A meter reading will be taken on arrival and departure days, you are very welcome to check the meter at anytime, which is on the parking area. The complimentary allowance is more than enough to cover the aircon being used in the bedroom booked overnight Please be aware that using the air conditioning with doors or windows open, using during the day or accidentally leaving on while you are out will put the usage over the allowance and a request for payment will be sent via Airbnb. We suggest closing shutters on the sea side of the house in high season to keep the sun out. We do our very best to keep the house bug free but there may be the occasional creepy crawly as it’s very normal in Cyprus, if you don’t want to deal with it please give us a call. We recommend covering food at night, not leaving windows open with lights on and wiping surfaces to keep ants away! There are some mosquitoes after sunset in the summer.. There is a mosquito net over the bed if guests wish to use it or sleep with windows open. If your stay is longer than 10 days you will be offered a complimentary linen and towel change. This is not a villa clean. If you would like to book our cleaner, subject to availability, she charges €65 and may be paid direct. To allow thorough cleaning and sterilisation time we ask that guests depart by 10am and do not arrive before 4pm. We are therefore unable to offer early check in or late departures. There is a villa two houses down along the stretch of beach towards the museum which is slowly being renovated by the owner and not a large company. This has been going on for the last few years and there is no way we can know if he will be working there or not. Most of the exterior is done as of December 24 but there is still some work to do. If you feel that any work being carried out on this villa would impact on your stay at Shambala please do not book. The beach isn’t ‘pretty’. It’s an untouched area for tourism at the moment. The cove is filled with rounded sea washed pebbles and after big waves seaweed, floatsom and jetsam get washed up onto the rocks. If you bring water shoes it’s a great adventure finding beautiful stones and intriguing driftwood. During the cooler season November to April the village is extremely quiet and there is only one tavern and a couple of grocery stores open making it a perfect spot for writers or meditation breaks. It is also wonderful winter romantic retreat as we have a gorgeous log burning fireplace, warm throws and fluffy blankets. THERE IS LOW WATER PRESSURE! There is a shower over the bath tub but it is NOT a power shower. One last thing, please, please do take out travel insurance. We, in the hospitality industry have suffered like everyone else with cancellations during the pandemic and have issued many refunds. In the event that you need to cancel due to unforeseen circumstances, the fact you are insured will mean neither of us lose out. Insurance Policies are now readily available to cover Covid, therefore we will maintain and adhere to our cancellation & refund policy. Thank you so much for your understanding.
