South Room

South Room is light & spacious with the view. Sleeps 4: king bed (or twin singles), a third single bed & a fourth single in the annexe. Bathroom en suite has Victorian bath, shower, twin basins. The kitchenette leads off the bedroom. Room: wifi, electric blankets, aircon, hairdryer, ironing facility. TV provides Netflix only. Please note: should you wish to view Dstv & prefer not to use the main guestlounge for this, please bring your HDMI cable & link your Dstv via your laptop/phone. The space When relocating to Hilton from Zimbabwe in 2003, Gateside Guesthouse took my breath away with its stunning views and Victorian charm, typical of the area. This wonderful area of mistbelt allows for lush, green countryside... Gateside is definitely a "character" home, being part of the original "Kings Gap" farm, (since subdivided and now with the main Victorian farmhouse on the property next door which dates back to the 1800's.) It became my family's home for 14 years. I no longer living on the property but still, 20 years' on, I find the view with its constantly changing weather patterns, as alluring as it ever was! The story goes that Gateside is the oldest Bed & Breakfast still in existence in Hilton. It has an ideal central location but is tucked away peacefully in a quiet cul-de-sac, overlooking pastures & dam. We are a happy bunch with loyal staff to welcome you. Our aim is that everyone should feel at home and comfortable, whether it's business or pleasure. Come, unwind & enjoy a relaxing stay in a beautiful setting! Phillipa & the Gateside team Guest access With only one exception, all of our rooms/units are fully self-catered with the option of breakfast. We invite you to enjoy the pool & garden or curl up with a good book & a cosy log fire in the guestlounge. The deck is also a good place to relax & enjoy the view.. You will find information folders in your rooms giving places of interest, restaurants and activities in the area plus a selection of brochures to be found in the hallway of the Guesthouse. Our restaurants and local village shops are all within a 1 to 7km radius of us and we are easily accessed from the N3 highway, (2kms away.) Pietermaritzburg city centre is within 10kms. For guests who wish to eat in, we offer a 2-course delivery dinner tray set up in your room. Orders do need to be made 24 hours prior and please let us know of any specific dietary requirements. A choice of either a full health and delicious, traditional English breakfast or a substantial health option is served in the conservatory on the deck where you can enjoy the view. Open between 7 to 9am Monday to Saturday and 7:30 to 9:30am Sundays. If guests require an early start, please give us 12 hours' notice and we will provide a packed breakfast to go. Packed lunches are also on offer with prior notice. Other conveniences available are laundry service, braais/barbecues and onsite parking with gate access. We accept all credit cards. Children are welcome and they are provided for with campcot & highchair.Some units/rooms are pet-friendly: please check for our Pet Policy. Please note: the swimming pool is not enclosed. During your stay Guests are greeted upon arrival as well as departure.
