The Yellow Villa
Lovely house with large garden, pool and magnificent views of Tuscan hills
Description
Built in the 1900s, the villa is elegant and light. Our house is the central section, with a large terrace giving magnificent views over the Tuscan hills, a grand staircase, and restored original painting in the rooms. We have a very large private garden and 10mx5m pool just for you . We're on the edge of a village with a good restaurant and shops. Great hiking, river swimming, canoeing and sightseeing nearby. Pisa (centre/ airport): 70mins, Lucca 45mins, Bagni 15mins, Florence 90mins. The space The house is airy and elegant. The rooms are furnished with antiques and decorated in the style of the period (1900s.) The kitchen leads onto a large terrace with a wisteria pergola creating shade over the large outside table and chairs . There is also a very large garden with many pleasant, shady places to sit and admire the view as well as lounging beds by the pool. This is 10mx5m with stone surrounds and internal steps (good for toddlers!). It is in full sun all day until about 6pm in the summer. The garden is full of fruit trees, olive and nut trees as well as grape vines and kiwi. We recently planted some oaks and a cedar of Lebanon. There are four bedrooms in the upper floors of the main house, each beautifully decorated. There are double beds in the blue and pink rooms. In the terracotta room there are two single beds. In the yellow room one small double plus a single bed. On the ground floor as you come in there is a sitting room with wood burning stove and then the kitchen which leads straight out to the terrace. The bathroom and cellar are on the next floor down, as is the converted barn with another light and airy sitting room plus, beneath that, another bathroom and bedroom/ sitting room with double sofa bed. From here you gain access to the rose garden and the gate that leads to the path to the large garden with the pool and new land with walnut grove and hammocks beneath. There are beautiful views of Tuscan hills from the house and garden. The blue hut in the garden has games to play (badminton, boules) on the lawn, deckchairs, sun loungers and cushions for the outdoor sofa under the vine pergola. From both the house, the terrace and the garden there are wonderful views of the hills, villages and mountains in the day and then the stars at night. Guest access Our house is a complete, private, unit, the central third of the big house, from attic to cellar and barn with its own private gardens. This includes: the rose garden, the stairs down, the narrow path with stone slabs to tread on (please stay on this path as the land above and below this belongs to neighbours,) the large garden bordered by bay and box hedges were the 10x5m pool is and the vine pergola. Beyond this is our olive grove and beneath it our new garden with with hammock seating in the walnut trees. There is no fence separating our garden from our neighbour's gardens but everyone has lot of space (our neighbours also have their own pool) and we respect the boundaries (just keep to the path between our rose garden and the large garden edged in bay hedges.) We all get on very well. Other things to note We are at 500 metres in altitude. The air is very clean and fresh. You should sleep very well. It is a wonderful place to come as a family or with friends but please no noise and disturbance in the house/ on the terrace after 11 pm out of respect for the neighbours. Also please note that we have kept and reproduced the original curly ironwork and stone stairs, of which there are many (it is a very tall house!) so not suitable for those with mobility problems. Also keep an eye on toddlers on the large terrace. Also we are now obliged to collect the 'tassa di soggiorno' and send it to the local authority. It is 1 euro per person per night up to 5 nights; free for under 14s. Please can you leave 5 euros per adult on the desk. The cleaning ladies will collect and pay the tax after you leave.
