Ahumati (ah-hoo-maa-ti) Uuchum in the local Miwok language means "Bear House" which is an apt name for our charming log house set in a rustic area of Mariposa. It has been lovingly restored and updated with artistic touches like the surf mosaic in the new shower and a 250 sqft enclosed patio with a tile mosaic floor. The all-electric house has solar panels and new appliances, double-glazed windows, new kitchen and furniture. The dark skies at night are perfect for star-gazing. The log house has a downstairs bedroom and two bedrooms upstairs. Enjoy your morning coffee and view from the deck off the upstairs master bedroom. There is a bathroom with shower downstairs and a bathroom with shower upstairs as well as a quaint balcony that looks down into the large living area. The log house has two AC/heating units, one for each floor and a laundry room downstairs with a washer and dryer. The kitchen is well-equipped and provisioned for real cooking. There is a BBQ outside for those preferring to grill their food. You can rent this house as well as our house Liichichi Uuchum next door if you are looking for a bugger space for a family gathering of about 12-13 people. 4/15/2021 : Please note that Yosemite has gone into a reservation system again for permits to enter the park, so please ensure that you get your day-use permits for the days when you make your booking for lodging. Go to the Yosemite national park service website to do this. I don't live in Mariposa and have a very reliable co-host Tina who lives nearby. Our smaller house next door, Liichichi Uuchum (Hummingbird house) is also available on Airbnb This is a rustic area with wildlife and a seasonal stream at the back. Please approach the stream with caution in the rainy winter months. During the summer months it is typically dry. Because of our rustic location we have a large number of spiders, ants, and insects in general so be aware that although we do our best, we cannot always exclude them from the patio or house. Driving time to the El Portal entrance into Yosemite will take 1 hour and Mariposa town is about a 10 minute drive. Guests have full and private access to the 5-acre property. We have a charger for your electric car. Please note this when making your booking since this is shared with our listing next door. Given our location which is close to Yosemite and the Sierra National Forest we have occasional PG&E power outages over which we have no control. We provide some led lamps, a small battery to charge your phones, drinking water jugs, and a 55 gal rain barrel with water to fill the toilets and wash hands. Please note this if you have sensitive medical equipment that requires power. And please carry travel insurance since we cannot reimburse your stay if the power loss is due to a PG&E issue. We are looking into a battery backup system but we don’t have one installed as yet.
