The Doghouse near Silverstone and Buckingham
The Doghouse near Silverstone and Buckingham
Description
The Doghouse is a self-contained bungalow with ONE double bedroom, open plan kitchen-sitting room & a shower room. It sits next to the host's home, in a quiet, secluded location in the countryside with Oxford and London within easy reach. We have one noisy dog & three cats; the Doghouse doesn't but it's close to our house (which makes it easy to come get us if you need to) so they may visit! Please read all info, & cancellation policy in full before booking; these aren't negotiable! Thank you. The space We are located at the end of a bridleway which is an unmade road by the side of a working wood and surrounded by fields; great for wildlife lovers. Because we are so rural, it can be very dark, and a tad muddy in the winter; bring wellies and a torch or two. The upside to this is that there is very little light pollution so the night sky on a clear night is laden with stars. If you are badly creeped out by insects you should probably book elsewhere! I'm not saying we're overrun but we are next to a wood so a woodlouse or two might wander in. As might a house beetle, wood beetle and grasshoppers. Daddy Long Legs in autumn. And spiders in warmer seasons. Again, if you don't do insects, I don't recommend it! Again, this MIGHT happen; it's not guaranteed. In the spring and summer, the bats come out as the last of the daylight fades. We think there are a couple who live in the roof; you might hear them at night. Also at night, you're likely to hear muntjac deer barking, owls, foxes, animal alarm calls and the occasional death scream; what can I say, it's the countryside! There are some lovely country walks around us & we welcome well-behaved dogs, two maximum (please do not leave them unattended). Please keep to 10mph max. on the bridleway, thank you, and look out for horse riders, dog walkers, badgers, deer, foxes, rabbits, hares, hedgehogs etc! Guest access If we are not at home when you arrive, we will leave the door open and the key on the dining table. Parking is on the property; please park directly in front of the railing opposite the patio doors. Please let us know, in advance, if you will be bringing more than one vehicle. Other things to note The cottage is heated with underfloor heating in the living room/kitchen and shower room, oil radiators in the bedroom which can be timed to suit your needs. The bedroom floor is tiled so can be a bit chilly underfoot, I recommend slippers... There is a window in the roof of the bedroom which we haven't worked out how to cover yet, so ours is not the place for you if you need blackout in the bedroom! It is an old building so needs to breathe, please do not hermetically seal yourselves in there! Crack open a window occasionally, especially if you are drying washing in the house; there is a portable de-humidifier to assist with this. You might not wish to stay during the shooting season as we do run a working wood and this may not be your cup of tea! We also ask that you do not walk through the woods without permission and, if you do, dogs must be kept on a lead. We do make every effort to remove our insect visitors before you arrive but we are very rural and spiders, house beetles and wood lice do favour our property; if you are nervous of insects, please be warned! The wi-fi is run by a couple of hamsters in a wheel; fibre optic hasn't reached us yet so if you need fast internet speeds you should choose somewhere else! WiFi and electricity is, occasionally, subject to random atmospheric complications; the 'joys' of country living... Rubbish isn't collected because we are so rural. You can put yours in with ours (instructions in the house manual which will be available to you 48 hours before check in) Don't worry about separating your rubbish from the recycling; the council uses the household rubbish to create energy. We do ask that you dispose of glass bottles, yourselves. There are bottle bins at the Buckingham Recycling Centre on the industrial estate on the ring road, which is where we take our rubbish.
