Owls Rest's on the edge of Askwith, small village 4miles away from Otley & Ilkley, start of Dalesway. Askwith featured in Heatbeat set 1960’s. Cosy self-contained cottage apartment, alongside home & small family run cattery/kennels. Open plan modern decor. Perfect base for visiting family, holiday break, business stopover, an event, wedding, theatre, music, walking, running, cycling, sightseeing and relaxing. On-site parking 1 car only (BIG vehicles-2 cars by arrangement). A warm welcome awaits The space Owls Rest stone cottage apartment suitable for singles & doubles only. Arrival patio great for drink, bird watching, sunsets & listening to sounds of country. The entrance door opens on to split-level staircase: UP for living, cooking & entertainment; DOWN for amenities and sleeping with small morning sunlit patio. Owls Rest has open plan living-kitchen-dining-lounge, cosy & comfortable with beautiful decor. The kitchen is well equipped with hob, double oven, microwave, fridge and dishwasher. Shared drying line outside. Clothes airer & ironing board by arrangement. No washing or drying machines (launderette Otley). Double bedroom & shower/toilet room lower level. Guest access Guests have exclusive use of apartment during stay. Internal locked door to garage for host only access. During your stay hosts may need to to enter garage, via outside roller door, however always kept to a minimum. Safe off road parking for one car only on owners land immediately outside apartment (second car or alternative vehicle by prior arrangement). The village has no street lighting, so head torch(es) useful to pack, especially walking back from The Penny Bun, recently refurbished gastropub opened April 2024. The Roebuck gastropub a short drive away; both require advance booking. Other things to note Owls Rest apartment is the perfect retreat for you or a couple with one bedroom & ensuite shower. It's located next to host’s farmhouse, adjacent to small family run cattery & kennels; between 9-10am and 3-4pm customers drop off &/or collect their pets. There’s so much to do, see, visit in Wharfedale, Yorkshire Dales, North York Moors & out towards East or West coast, via amazing places enroute, such as York, Castle Howard, etc …. where do we start? Locally, Heartbeat was filmed in North Yorkshire featuring buildings in old-fashioned market town Otley, just 4 miles away. Here the cobbled market place and lovely old buildings were perfect setting for the time in which TV series was set. There’s so much going on in Otley including famous Otley Cycle Race, Victorian Market, weekly Chevin Forest parkrun, Punk Panther Endurance Events, plus Folk & Walking festivals at different times of year. Ilkley, also four miles away in opposite direction up the river Wharfe, is another popular town for filming. Ilkley Moor features in dozens of films and TV shows, DCI Banks & Calendar Girls to mention a couple. The Emmerdale Village Tour is close & whilst “up north” only 90 minutes away is The Coronation Street Experience, via Holmfirth setting of Last of the Summer Wine, Haworth... the Pennine village where the Bronte sisters grew up, a stop on the Keighley & Worth Valley Steam Railway, another popular heritage location where The Railway Children was filmed. Ilkley’s a great location for other entertainment shows, theatre, Ilkley Literature & Summer Food Festivals, Ilkley Tennis Tournament, Ilkley Half Marathon & Cycle Race; the list is endless. For business users too it’s a great alternative to impersonal hotel. Ideal base for short term relocation or in between house moves. It’s close proximity to Leeds Bradford Airport (short taxi ride), Harrogate Convention Centre, Halifax Piece Hall, indoor Leeds & Manchester Arenas, not forgetting Bradford Alambra, the jewel in the crown of the city. Remember Owls Rest. It’s the perfect base to explore the Yorkshire Dales & surroundings including York & beyond to either Morecombe or Scarborough equidistant coastlines. Many visitors ‘day trip’ The Lakes, Coast or serious Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge , a 24-miles (38.6km) round trip route, including ascent of Ingleborough, Whernside and Pen-y-ghent. However staying local you’ll not be bored! Visit Salts Mill, Coldstones Cut, Armscliffe Cragg, Harlow Carr Gardens, Fountains Abbey, The Himalayan Garden & Sculpture Park, Fountains Abbey, ‘Tennants’ - the UK's largest family-owned fine art auctioneers, Bingley Five Rise Locks, quaint tiny villages (Kettlewell Scarecrow festival) & historic towns such as Skipton, Grassington (All Creatures Great and Small), Knaresborough & Harrogate home of the Great Yorkshire Show (book early)!
