Description

Located in the heart of the historic center of Portopalo, this ancient "bagghiu" baglio is located in a pleasant and quiet square shaded by majestic and tall Mediterranean palm trees with a spectacular sea view of the Island of Capo Passero and the Archaeological Park. The space Renovated in 2020/21, the Baglio cicogna "bagghìu" is part of a typical and still intact historic house in the village. It is located on the ground floor with pleasant access from the square through a lovely and private veranda. The Baglio has: A bright living area organized as an open space with a large window overlooking the square, equipped with a sofa, TV, dining area and a fully equipped kitchen. The rooms have very bright skylights with electric openings and mosquito nets. Private sleeping area with hallway, a double bedroom, a bedroom with a bunk bed, a large bathroom complete with a washing machine. Although it is located in the historic center, 30 meters from the main street, the beautiful square where the Baglio is located enjoys excellent privacy, both visual and acoustic. It can accommodate up to 4 people. Air conditioning with summer/winter heat pumps Guest access suitable for families and couples Other things to note PORTOPALO DI CAPOPASSERO Located at the crossroads between the Ionian Sea and the Mediterranean Sea, we are in the southernmost town of Sicily with a latitude below Tunis; you do not pass through Portopalo by chance, you arrive because you want to go and find it, to discover it, to understand it takes time and humility. The name "Pachino tomato", which originated when Portopalo was still a hamlet of Pachino, is actually plagiarism; the real and inimitable best tomato in the world with a unique and unmistakable flavor is born here, in this wild land, in its spartan greenhouses near this magical emerald-colored sea, the real name should be "Portopalo tomato"; patience, as these people sometimes have a lot of it, is rude but true and proud. A new Sanctuary on the sea has just been completed, ready to receive hundreds of pilgrims. The port of Portopalo, a few kilometers outside the town, has the second largest fleet of fishing boats in Sicily after Mazzara del Vallo. Interesting fact to remember: Portopalo is one of the few seaside towns in Italy that has two lighthouses. Portopalo fish market It is located at the port, frequented by the fishmongers of the area and is also open to private individuals; it is best to go from 12:30 to 2:00 p.m. when the fish just caught by the fishing boats arrive on small boats. Depending on the season, you will find almost all varieties of fish from the southern Mediterranean (usually sold in boxes) at very low prices. BEACHES: Scalo Mandrie At the end of Corso Vittorio Emanuele, the main street of the town, is the beach of the Portopalesi. It is located in front of the island of Capo Passero in a spectacular landscape surrounded by the Poseidonia marine reserve. If you wear a mask and snorkel, the area from the Madonnina to the tuna fishery is a marine ecstasy with pristine seabeds. Capo Passero Island Connected by shuttle boat to the beach of Scalo Mandrie, it is possible to reach it by sea at low tide, but be careful not to get too confident. The transparency of the water and the blue/turquoise colors make it a paradise, on the side towards the open sea hundreds of seagulls are the absolute masters and scream with their aerial evolutions, defended by razor-sharp rocks that make them unapproachable. The beautiful medieval fortress has been renovated and can be visited. Snorkeling from the tuna trap warehouses, along the cliff, is superb. Isola delle Correnti Beautiful beach a few kilometers from Portopalo with access to the sea on two sides. From the beach you can reach the island of Correnti with its disused military buildings and the lighthouse. Carratois: A wonderful beach among the most beautiful in Sicily, adjacent to that of the Isola delle Correnti, it extends up to Punta delle Formiche for a length of a few kilometers. It is protected by dunes with beautiful ivory sand; the crystal clear sea slopes gently between a thousand shades of turquoise and is very suitable for children. Excellent privacy even in high season. The seabed of Punta delle Formiche is pristine and ideal for snorkeling, beyond the tip there are fantastic scenarios of rocky walls and small bays. Calamosche The apotheosis, a fantastic beach located within the Vendicari reserve with access to the road from Pachino to Noto. You need to park in the reserve and reach it on foot in 15/20 minutes of pleasant walking through the park. When it appears from above, this crescent of golden sand surrounded by cliffs, only a good writer can find appropriate words to describe it, I just tell you that every time is the first time. Wild and devoid of everything, if you plan to stop for a few hours you need to bring at least the necessary to quench your thirst. The seabed is absolutely pristine, a phantasmagorical explosion of marine life. In 2014, it was considered the most beautiful beach in the Mediterranean Sea. TO SEE IN THE SURROUNDING AREA: Marzamemi What I hope never becomes Portopalo, a dazzling movie set surrounded by hundreds of anonymous vacation homes. If you want to get excited, go to the square at the hottest and most unthinkable hour (1:30-2:30 p.m.) when the tourists are resting and the few Sicilian residents are barricaded in the house. The silent square, surrounded by the humble and melancholic fishermen's houses (now all transformed into holiday homes and restaurants) with its deconsecrated church and the tuna palace, evokes ferocious emotions. It is worth visiting the Campisi shop with typical Sicilian specialties of all respect (you can make a nice selection and have them sent to your home), very serious and professional. Pachino The "metropolis" of the area. The pleasant bar/pastry shop "Il Ciclope" in the main square is the social gathering place of the Pachinesi. Noto The most precious gem of southeastern Sicily and an acclaimed treasure of Sicilian Baroque. In the late afternoon, the warm colors of the golden tone of the Noto stone are enhanced. The perfect end to the day is to stop for dinner at one of the city's excellent restaurants. An essential stop at "caffè Sicilia," which was judged the best pastry shop in Italy a few years ago. The restaurant is located on the main road immediately after the Cathedral. Registration Details IT089020C2ELBW4XUF
