Granny Higgins Cottage

Recently renovated Granny Higgins Cottage is situated along the R290 on the very edge of the lovely picturesque village of Ballisodare. On its own ground, it has private off road parking with a lawned area to the front and side. A lovely private area at the back which is ideal for relaxing and outdoor dining where you can enjoy the tranquil views of the surrounding mountains and woods. A wonderful sense of privacy and yet only 5 mins walk to the busy village main street. The space This quaint old cottage is brimming with charm. Built in the early 1900s it retains the original Irish country cottage look on the outside, and on the inside it has been renovated to make it a cosy homely living space. A lovely comfortable living/dining area in the front that has a double height ceiling. On one side of this area there is a couch, coffee table and TV that has Irish terrestrial and freesat channels. The other side has a dining table & chairs and a hand built traditional style dresser. There is full central heating with lots of hot water and an electric shower in the bathroom. The bedrooms are not big, lets say functionally cosy. A standard size double bed in each, with a wardrobe in one and a dressing table in the other. The kitchen is fully equipped, with electric oven and hob and all the food preparation and cooking equipment you might need. A washing machine and of course a dishwasher to take care of things after your meal. The very popular Union Wood is right on your doorstep. It has miles of tracks and trails where you can enjoy nature and the peace and quiet of the wood. Some of the pathways in Union also form part of the Sligo Way. A great base from which to explore all that this area has to offer, really central to all of the most popular local attractions 5 miles to Sligo Town with its great shopping and its award winning pubs and restaurants. 7 miles to Strandhill with its busy surf schools and golf course. 5 miles to Dooney Rock and Slish Wood on the shores of Lough Gill, 6 miles to The National Mountain Bike Centre in Coolaney with routes suitable for all ages and fitness levels. A few minutes drive in either direction will bring you to the nearby wild Atlantic coastline. With its long sandy beaches which are interspersed with rugged coastline where you can enjoy brisk sea breezes and stunning views. Other things to note We are the fourth generation of our family to own Granny Higgins Cottage and in our renovations we have retained some furniture, fittings and knick knacks as a reminder of people and times past. We hope that you enjoy this mix of old and new. and we are really hopeful that you will get a cosy, homely feel during you stay at the cottage. As was often the way with some of these old cottages the doorways were lower than what we have become accustomed to today. We would just like to point out to guests that the back door into the kitchen area has a step down and low headroom at about 1.75m. Also, we retained the original internal doors which are slightly lower than the modern standard height Guests who book for 7 nights or more get 12% discount. We regret we are unable to cater for pets. We would ask any ladies who are dressing up for a special occasion to please not walk on the laminate flooring in the cottage with high heeled shoes.
