Description

Teagles Cottage, located in the heart of Stow-on-the-Wold, is the perfect retreat for romantic breaks or family get-togethers. This traditional Cotswold stone cottage is within walking distance of restaurants, shops and tea rooms. Teagles Cottage sleeps 7 guests across 4 bedrooms (2 king-size, 1 twin and 1 single), with one en-suite bathroom, one family bathroom and a downstairs WC, and features a cosy log fire, private parking with an EV charger, and a pretty patio garden. The space Constructed from traditional honey-coloured Cotswold stone dating back around 150 years, we believe the cottage originally started life as a barn. The owners have injected new life and incorporated contemporary features, including a large log burner, eye-catching oak and nickel stair banisters and cleverly designed under-eave bedroom wardrobes. Step through the front door into the bright and airy hallway – a great place to hang coats, take off walking boots and relax after a day exploring the Cotswolds in this wonderfully welcoming, luxury holiday rental. So much thought has been put into Teagles Cottage with nothing forgotten, making it a delightful Cotswold holiday home-from-home. From the thoughtful toiletries and chest of family games to the fully equipped kitchen and fantastic log burner it’s not surprising that guests return year after year. Why Stow-on-the-Wold? It is a delightful Cotswold market town which, along with Moreton in Marsh, is perhaps the best known of the small Cotswolds towns. Stow on the Wold stands on a 700-foot high hill at a junction of seven major roads, including the Roman Fosse Way. Perhaps a reason why it was the site of the last battle of the English Civil War in 1646? At the height of the Cotswold wool industry the town was famous for its huge annual fairs where as many as 20,000 sheep were sold at one time. If you look closely when you visit The Square you will see narrow alleyways between some of the buildings. These are known as ‘chures’ and were designed to channel the sheep into The Square on market day. The vast market square testifies to the town’s former importance. At one end stands the ancient cross, and at the other the town stocks, shaded between an old elm tree. Around the square is an elegant array of beautiful Cotswold town houses. Opposite Teagles Cottage is The Porch House Hotel, which is reputed to be the oldest Inn in England, dating back to 947 AD. The bar and restaurant are open to non residents. Stow has a sophisticated collection of shops and restaurants and is the perfect starting point for walks across the Cotswolds’ countryside. If you’re here to do some walking through the beautiful Cotswold countryside, towns and villages, there are some guide books available for your use at the cottage or you can visit Cotswolds AONB where you can download walks for free.
