Casa La Pitaya, design in a beautiful scenery

A five-star rated breathtaking place just outside the colonial village Barichara. Well connected by car or tuktuk (10 minutes) or a 45 min hike to the centre of Barichara. This one of a kind house is newly built, using a blend of traditional Colombian techniques (tapia pisada) and Dutch design. This results in a very comfortable and pleasant atmosphere. It offers two separate private bed- and bathrooms, whereas the living area is semi-open offering a stunning view over the valley and the Andes. The space The house consists of two connected units: 1. The building with the 2 double bedrooms with bathrooms and a separate restroom, is made of tapia pisada (rammed earth) . This means that during daytime the heat is kept outside, while during the night the warmth of the day keeps the room comfortably warm. 2. The living area is a wooden construction with shutters which can be adjusted. Parts of it can be safely pulled up to get a miraculous view from inside your living room! Regardless the semi-open character of the house it can be fully and securely closed easily. The bedrooms are equipped with mosquito nets although mosquitoes are a rather rare phenomenon, especially in the dry season. The kitchen is provided with drinking water, oil, vinegar, pepper, salt and herbs. Guest access You have access to all rooms, the garden and the rest of the 2.5 acre property. There is a parking facility for two cars next to the house but the final access via the dirt road is sometimes limited for non-4x4 vehicles when it rains heavily. In this case the car can be parked on the private property about 200 meters from the house. You can also hike to Barichara from our house in about 45 minutes. Other things to note La Pitaya is located in a natural environment. We respect nature and ask our guests to do so as well. Living in the middle of nature, it is possible that small animals like spiders, bats and scorpions make a pass thru our house. The bedrooms are provided with mosquito nets, so you are safe ;-) A gardener takes care of the garden and might be there maximally a day during your stay. He will respect your privacy. The base price includes up to 4 persons. On demand the couch in the living area can be transformed into the additional 5th and/or 6th bed at a small extra rate per person.
