Description

THE KABINKA No service, no electricity, no plumbing, no problems "Kabinka" is the name of our eastern European inspired Chalet. She is unadorned, a simple off-grid shelter for your wilderness retreat. Configured equally for a large party of family/friends, or for a couple's weekend away (groups over 4 are charged more) The space Please follow the signs and directions. We offer three other sites on various platforms, the PROSPECTOR TENT CAMP-SITE, CREEK-SIDE CAMP-SITE, and FALLSVIEW CAMP-SITE. Each area is about 1 acre in size. They are marked and privacy is provided by landscaping, hillsides and trees. You may encounter like-minded travelers on the extended trail network, but your site is private! This is an off-grid cabin with no power amenities. There is an outhouse located just behind. It's rustic, it's basic, it's beautiful in that lovingly patched-together way. Let's call it, farmer chic. Kabinka is an old hunt camp located on our 100+ acres. There is a well-trodden loop to the waterfalls, and we are adding signed sections of trails every season. Check-in with the hosts if you would like to explore more. You must provide your own bedding, sleeping bags, or sheets. Wool blankets are in the red wood chest. Linens are available in the blue dresser for $10 per bed. Pack like you are going on a camping trip. Dry hardwood is included for winter heating, and this wood is only to be used for the woodstove. From experience, we set out a prescribed quantity of stove wood for your stay. For outdoor fires, wood from inside should not be used outside. You are most welcome to harvest any dead wood from the forest, or to bring bags of dry hardwood. Water can be carried from the creek and filtered through our Berkey brand cistern. We do provide 2 jugs of drinking water per visit, but it is a smart idea to bring a few of your own jugs/bottles. Guest access The Hamlet of Rockingham is around the corner by car or over the foot-bridge and through the trees. You're encouraged to walk or bicycle and explore the quiet gravel of John Watson Road that extends for miles along Rockingham Creek. Hiking trails are signed and outlined on the Map. The pond is the best swimming hole and is also used by other folks living on the farm. It is often skateable in the winter. The pond is actually part of the creek. You are free to use and enjoy other parts of the creek leading down to the waterfalls. Other things to note The farm is located on the other side of the pond/ river, and though it cannot be seen through the forest undergrowth, it can be heard. We can also hear guests across the pond, and loud music is not permitted to be played outside the cabin. Please keep dogs on leash at all times. Cattle are corralled near the cabin, and other dogs, cats and fowl inhabit the farm. Pay special attention to the DIRECTIONS as the site access is unsigned and GPS is unreliable. CHECK-IN is 2PM earliest, and CHECK-OUT is 10AM latest. Thanks for your understanding. The pricing scheme is set up to have a lower price for couples. Due to airBB payment set up, I cannot give discount to a small group, only charge more for larger groups, which is supposed to be my regular price. NOTE: Use of the wood stove is not permitted during July & August. Please message us with questions or clarifications.
