Rest at Alaska Golden Guesthouse, a modern, second story log home, close to world class fishing, rafting, and Wrangell-St. Elias National Park. Located on our family homestead circa 1963, this is Grammie's home with some mobility aids available. Centrally located in the Copper River Country, this is a great base to explore the region or take day trips to Valdez, McCarthy, or Nabesna. The region is beautiful and full of history and culture. We are happy to share it with you. The guesthouse is perfect for those wanting to get away in a quiet, private setting in rural Alaska. Its open concept can accommodate families and larger groups. The apartment is located upstairs in the second log home on the property. It has everything you need for a short or extended stay. You can start your day with gourmet coffee, explore all day, and come home to a meal you prepped in the morning. Ask us about using the chest freezer for your Copper River Red or King salmon or Valdez halibut catch. There are full laundry facilities for those messy days and shoe trays for your muddy boats. There are no hidden fees and no long list of chores. We just ask that you turn off the lights and coffee pot when you leave. We respectfully require no smoking (tobacco or marijuana) nor vaping on the premises. You have two entrances with electronic lock boxes for your security. Enjoy watching or feeding the bunnies while you relax on the lawn or on the balcony. There are picnic tables and a swing set, and you are welcome to utilize the lawn. We are always glad to meet new friends from afar! You set the tone for your stay. We try to greet each guest and are next door and available if you have questions. I was raised here on the homestead and we have loved raising our children here. I also taught business and history courses at the local community college. You will find local information on land status, flora, fauna, geography, geology, and more in the "Tourism in Rural Alaska" book in the bookcase. You will also find the book, "Where in the Hell is Sourdough, Alaska," that tells the story of my husband's family and growing up in the region. We both lived in several other states before settling back here to raise our family. Our quiet neighborhood is situated on my family’s original homestead, on which sits the guesthouse. It is very rural and not in a town. We are: -2 miles from Wrangell-St. Elias National Park's Visitor's Center -4 miles from Copper Center for fishing, rafting, and the closest restaurant and gas station -6.5 miles from our local clinic -6 miles from the closest small convenience store and gas station -12 miles from Glennallen for groceries, restaurants, gas station, supplies, and only 24-hour convenience store Please note that our community is very small and prices are higher than in Anchorage and Fairbanks. Restaurants are limited and most close early, thus we provide a fully-equipped kitchen for you. You will need a vehicle to reach the Guesthouse. We are 2.5 hours from Palmer, 3.5 hours from Anchorage, 4.5 hours from Fairbanks, 2 hours from Valdez, 1 hour from Chitina, and 3-4 hours from McCarthy. All times are dependent upon road conditions and traffic (to include the animal traffic). GPS maps will, strangely enough, route you through Tok to get to Fairbanks. The Richardson Highway is just fine to drive and has some incredible scenery along the way. There is no need to add two hours onto your trip unless you want to see the scenery and stop at Fast Eddy’s in Tok for a meal. Locals (like us) have been known to drive three hours one way for a meal at Fast Eddy’s. We have a replica Civil War era cannon in the front yard and two box cars. We are history and geology geeks so you will see a lot of rocks and many old things.
