Description
Why Macugnaga? It is "the most beautiful place in the world", as Professor William Paton Ker, one of Oxford's most famous professors. Perfect for 2/4 people eager to be enchanted by the mother nature of the mountains, in the intimacy of our alpine village. The space Important notes: - The tourist tax of €1.50 per person per night must be paid in cash. - Depending on the period, an additional cost may be required for methane heating with private meter reading (€1/Smc) - minimum stay of 2 nights The apartment is located in Borca di Macugnaga – 1200 meters above sea level – on the main road, a few dozen meters from a well-stocked grocery store (fresh milk, dairy products and local sausages) and tobacco shop, and from the bar-restaurant Circolo ARCI "Al 220 z'MakanÀ". The center of Staffa is 2 km away and can also be reached on foot through a path that runs along the Anza stream and connects all the hamlets of Macugnaga and the well-marked hiking trails of all levels and rock gyms in the area of the sports center and just above our mountain garden. On the ground floor of a house of 6 apartments (of which 3 are permanently inhabited) erected in 1908 as a Weisstor hotel, it consists of large and bright windows. A second entrance overlooks a small patio and the ancient mule track of the Anzasca valley, now used as a path, near the fountain, the 17th-century church and the typical wooden Stadel (stables-barns) dating back to the early 17th century. Until 1950, the apartment housed the tavern of the great-grandmother "Ceschi" and in 2012 it was carefully renovated internally by local masters, preserving some period furniture such as the table, the bench, the chest and the wall-mounted bar cabinet. From a small corridor with glass-brick and exposed stone you can access the living room with a kitchenette and the bedroom with a double bed and a large walk-in closet. A hallway leads to the bathroom and the other exit from which - in summer - you can reach the lawn at 20 meters: a natural and completely isolated amphitheater, with gardens, garden and private space to relax with table, chairs, umbrella, area with barbecue on the ground and fire, and spend days and evenings in company, overlooking Punta Dufour. 4634 meters, the highest of the Monte Rosa massif, at the top of the East wall that with its 2,500 meters of altitude difference is the only "Himalayan" wall of the Alps. Macugnaga is one of the Walser communities (contraction of Walliser/Vallesano) that from the 13th century chose to settle around Monte Rosa coming from the Saas Fee valley through the Passo del Moro at 3000 meters. It is a stage of the Monterosa-Cervino Tour - from May to September - and a small winter paradise - spring for lovers of powder and the beaten slopes "with a view" of the "Ladies" of the Rosa. Excursions, crossings and ascents for everyone in a grandiose and fascinating environment. For almost half a century, the area has been a wildlife oasis, where hunting is prohibited. Marked trails. Chamois, ibex, deer, roe deer and marmots, strictly protected, often descend to the edge of our house. The oasis is crossed by a nature trail. Cross-country skiers have a ring that starts from the hamlet of Isella (1 km from Borca) and goes up to Pecetto. The road to the Lago delle Fate (Fairy Lake) also starts from Isella (it can also be reached from Borca, passing by the Antica Casa Walser museum and the Guia Gold Mine) where the Quarazza Valley opens up with the "Dead City", a village that bears witness to the era of gold mining when the Pestarena mines were the most important in Italy. They were closed in 1961. The Tourist Information and Reception Office, together with the Alpine and Environmental Hiking Guides and the headquarters of the Italian Alpine Club, are available to illustrate the rich calendar of customizable and group activities. The intermediate station of the chairlift allows access to the slopes of the Alpe Burki suitable for both experienced skiers and beginners, while the second section of the facility leads to the Belvedere, located at an altitude of over 1900 meters, where there are three challenging and spectacular slopes. At the start of the chairlift, on the other hand, a comfortable treadmill allows beginners and children to take their first steps on skis in absolute safety. The Monte Moro pass can be reached by two cable cars starting from the town of Staffa. The ski area offers slopes suitable for all levels, from beginners to expert skiers, with a difference in altitude of over 1000 meters.
