Duck Cottage is a memorable place to stay tucked down a private lane and next door to the pretty thatched Bourne Cottage. Private gardens are filled with birds and wildlife with access to the River Bourne. The cottage has been newly refurbished with all new throughout, sleeping 4 in 2 double bedrooms, one en-suite, also a separate bathroom. Main king size bed, 2nd bed has zip and link twin beds, both rooms have smart TVs. Outside a large patio, gas BBQ and lighted path to the river platform . The space Duck Cottage is spacious guest accommodation newly refurbished to a high standard. The 2 bedrooms are generous with built in wardrobes and smart TVs. The en-suite shower and shared bathroom are installed with heated towel rail and underfloor heating, there is new technology intelligent electric heating throughout. Kitchen appliances include dishwasher, washing machine and fridge freezer, oven, hob and microwave. The comfortable living room has 2 sofas, armchair and small extending dining table with chairs, Sky installed TV and french doors opening to the patio and gardens. Guests are invited to wander the grounds of flower and wild gardens, down through the trees to the river. This footpath has low level nighttime lighting and it is delightfully restful to sit on the riverside platform with a glass of wine listening to the owls, watching for fish in the water. Guest access Duck Cottage is only 4 miles from the beautiful cathedral city of Salisbury, with its shops, restaurants, history and amenities. Mainline rail services run to London, Southampton, Bath and points west. We are a 20min drive to Stonehenge, and 20mins to the beautiful New Forest. A footpath runs in the lane outside offering a pretty 40 min circular walk crossing the river further down. A dedicated car parking space is outside the property with additional space in the yard next door. Guests have own private entrance into heated porch with space for coats etc. Other things to note Claire is an artist painting landscape in pastel and oil. By separate arrangement half day painting in pastels could be offered to any guest who would like to paint by the river. Tuition, paper and pastels can all be provided (weather dependent !). In the grounds of approx 1.5 acres we have 5 free range rescue chickens and you might come across a hen rummaging through the flower borders. They are very sociable. The organic gardens are a mix of cultivated and wildflowers all mainly grown to benefit the bees, butterflies and moths. We have a healthy bat colony living in nearby woods and hope you will have interesting wildlife experiences to enhance your stay. The river is high in winter but gentler in summer with stony bottom for safer footing. It’s not deep enough to swim, but please take care if paddling. The grounds are great fun for children but it’s stressed that full supervision must be provided at all times because of the river. There is also a wild pond.
