La Nave de Pol
La Nave de Pol
Description
Situated at the head of the Trancura valley, 50km from Pucón, below the awe inspiring peaks of Millaillipen and Quinquilil, LA NAVE DE POL is architecturally as extraordinary as its surroundings, in the natural wonders of Araucanía. Expect to meet native birds like Martín Pescador at the river, Chucao, Concón Owl at night, the footprint of the wild boars, condors at the peak of Las Peinetas, Bandurrias, colorful lizards, Tricahue parrots, native frogs at Agua del León. The space The lodge design is based on the form of a torus, a surface of revolution, and structured by rauli beams from the neighbouring forest, bolted together by folded steel plates that take care of the complex geometry. There is a double height entrance space, sheltered from the sun and the rain, and with fantastic views up to Quinquilil. It is naturally cross ventilated and functions perfectly as an indoor-outdoor dining area during the summer months. The kitchen is gigantic and playful, configuring a space for collaborative cooking and socialising around a large central table where culinary secrets are shared. Across the hall the Living/dining room is a mirror image that is spacious and more formal, with a wood burning stove that provides ample heat on colder nights. All of the connecting doors are sliding, and the ground floor functions like a pavilion, allowing a series of scenes or situations to be developed in parallel. The shower room is folded in beside the staircase, with minimalist natural detailing in the basin, the mirror and the shower pebble floor. Upstairs the three large bedrooms come into direct contact with the polygons of the roof, making for intimate and bespoke spaces that speak the language of lofts. The two double bedrooms are separated while the triple room has a central location and interacts with the mezzanine platform that overlooks the entrance hall. There is a second bathroom, and the large central rooflight lets the mountains into the composition. On moonlit nights the lodge appears to travel with the clouds across the sky. The entire house is made from rauli timber, sustainable harvested from the surrounding forest, and the detailing of the torus geometry is beautifully executed by local craftsmen. The interiors are all highly insulated and all the glazing is double, allowing the lodge to be used both in summer and in winter. The water supply comes directly and deliciously from a waterfall situated above the house. Guest access The entire NAVE is available for guests as an independent dwelling. The NAVE is situated next to the AGUA DEL LEON waterfall with its pristine ecosystem, and set within a private estate of 50 hectares, with an endemic ecosystem based on rauli forests that make for fascinating walking. Other things to note There is a series of cascades of extraordinary beauty accessible by trails at 500m above the Ship. Down the farm ends with 350m of river edge with the Trancura, and is perfect for swimming and enjoying during the hot days. The area has become famous in recent years as the site for the PUESCOFEST festival in November in support of free rivers.
