Other things to note The coast of Ubara and Katsuura is breathtaking, with white-sand bays, dramatic cliffs, and rocky shorelines. Just minutes from the house, you’ll find Ubara Utopia, a short hiking trail with scenic lookouts — a perfect spot to enjoy both sunrise and sunset. In fact, this area is one of the very first places in Honshu to see the sunrise, making it especially popular on New Year’s Day. Nearby, the Katsuura Underwater Park offers a fascinating experience where you can descend to the seabed and observe fish and marine life. It’s definitely worth a visit, especially on calm days with clear water. Katsuura itself is a charming town with a mild climate — cool summers (usually 28–30°C, often the lowest in Kanto) and gentle winters. This unique weather comes from the undersea topography, which pushes up cold water and cools the air — a rare natural phenomenon. The town is also famous for its delicious food, from fresh local seafood in many varieties to the spicy tantanmen noodles. Sport fishing is excellent here, with something to enjoy year-round. From the shore or harbor, aji (horse mackerel) fishing is especially popular, and some days you can fill an entire cooler box. Boat trips are also available, targeting seasonal fish such as aji, hiramasa, akahata, and madai. In late winter (February–March), Katsuura hosts an impressive Hina Doll Festival. Over 7,000 hina dolls are displayed across town during the 10-day event, drawing visitors from far and wide. Registration Details Hotels and Inns Business Act | 千葉県夷隅保健所 | 第R7-18号
