Tucked away in the rolling Somerset countryside between Somerton and Castle Cary, Rubbery Farmhouse is a beautifully restored retreat dating back to around 1688. This much-loved home blends historic character with thoughtful modern comforts. The space As our family home, which we share with guests when we’re away, it feels welcoming, well-equipped, and genuinely lived-in—rather than a purely rental space. Whether you're gathering with friends, enjoying a family break, or escaping for a few peaceful days, it offers a relaxed and characterful base to explore this special part of the country. From the moment you arrive, Rubbery Farmhouse feels calm and inviting. A flagstone path leads through the garden to the front door, opening into a spacious hallway. To one side, the sitting room is perfect for unwinding—garden views, soft light, and a wood-burning stove for cosy evenings. French doors open onto the courtyard, making it just as enjoyable in summer as it is in winter. On the other side is the heart of the home: a generous open-plan kitchen and dining space designed for gathering. A large refectory table invites long, relaxed meals, while the Everhot cooker keeps things warm and homely year-round. Upstairs, you’ll find four comfortable double bedrooms—three with queen-size beds and one with a king-size bed, all designed for a restful night’s sleep. The main bedroom has its own en-suite with a claw-foot bath, while the remaining rooms share a modern shower room with a walk-in shower. There’s plenty of space to unpack and settle in, with wardrobes and drawers available in each room. As this is our home, some storage areas remain in use for our belongings—these are clearly marked so it’s easy to know what’s available for guests. ________________________________________ Outdoor living The gardens wrap around the house and are perfect for enjoying throughout the day—morning coffee in the sun, lazy afternoons on the lawn, and relaxed evenings outdoors. Just outside the sitting room, a sheltered courtyard is ideal for al fresco dining, with a BBQ area perfectly positioned for cooking and enjoying the sunset. You’ll also have exclusive access to the party room—a fun, flexible space for entertaining, complete with a bar area and table tennis for laid-back evenings.
