Steeped in history and previously boasting over 400 rail workings a day, engine sheds and a turntable the station is located on the old London Midland and Scottish line, only 5 miles from the start of the famous Settle to Carlisle line. These days the station plays regular host to some of the countries finest preserved Steam and Diesel locomotives hauling tours originating from all over the UK. This important station still provides watering facilities for these icons of steam meaning many stay for an extended period allowing unrivalled viewing and photography. As an active mainline station it is served by Northern Rail. Hourly services arrive and depart to locations such as Leeds, Skipton, Ribblehead, Carlisle and Lancaster meaning The Yorkshire Sleeper is an ideal base to explore the delights of Northern England. Located on an island platform accessed via a subway the station buildings these days are a hive of activity. Not only The Yorkshire Sleeper but also the Shed 24H cafe (named after the old shed code for Hellifield) sitting proudly at the entrance. Filled with railway memorabilia, Yorkshire sourced produce and its famous “fireman’s breakfast”, the cafe is open 5 days a week. Additional rooms along the flagged platforms provide extra dining capacity and are bursting with photos, books, Railwayana and interesting items. The Yorkshire Sleeper boasts two bedrooms, a bathroom, a kitchen and a living room with dining facilities. Upon entering through the upstairs front door you walk straight into the living room with the master bedroom off to the left. The second bedroom is further down on the left-hand side with the kitchen and bathroom at the far end. Inside the Sleeper's modern kitchen guests will find all the equipment that self-catering guests will need and all the rooms are furnished and decorated with items celebrating Hellifield’s proud railway heritage, including works by local artists and artefacts from the station’s past. There is a double bedroom furnished with dressing table, wardrobe and bedside lights. The second bedroom contains two single beds, hanging space and bedside cabinet. A travel cot bed is available on request. The apartment is located above the grade 2 listed Hellifield Railway Station and Shed24H cafe located within. The sash windows offer stunning views across the surrounding Lancashire and Yorkshire hills. The stations Island platforms are accessed via a subway and are covered by impressive glass canopies which can been seen from the Sleeper. Guest access As the apartment is located within the station it is accessed via a subway along a random flagged platform, through a door with a small step and has 28 open-tread metal steps up to the entrance.
