The huge expanse of beach set beneath the backdrop of the Western fells of the Lake District makes it a unique destination. Alfred Wainwright described Black Combe, the fell overlooking the beach, as 'one of the most rewarding ascents in the Lake District'. It is definitely our favourite - unparalleled for views of the hills and the sea. The area is perfect for walkers, whether you are exploring the Lake District or the Furness peninsula, or completing part (or all!) of the Cumbria Coastal Path, which runs right next to the house. The beach is perfect for holidaymakers of all types, whether you're intending to swim, paddleboard, kitesurf, paraglide from the dunes, or make sandcastles. There are many great attractions in the area, including the Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway - 'La'al Ratty' - and Muncaster Castle. Cumbrian Heavy Horses (pictured) offer riding experiences on the beach. The area is rich in wildlife, including rare natterjack toads and great crested newts. Birds to look out for include swallows, oystercatchers, gannets, red-throated divers and more. Porpoise, and even the occasional pod of dolphins, can be seen from the shore. The recently opened Silecroft beach cafe is a two minute walk from the property and is highly recommended for coffee, brunch, and even Sunday roasts. The property's location on the coast means that guests can feel connected to nature whatever the weather. Beautiful sunsets can be enjoyed from the property and on clear days you can see as far as the Isle of Man and Scotland. It is also a cosy place to be tucked up inside when the Cumbrian wind and rain are in action! Please note - due to the property's remote location, the WiFi can occasionally be unreliable. Board games and books are available, and you may wish to bring alternative entertainment. We would like to say thank you to our friends who took the beautiful local area images for this listing :-)
