Butlers - Organic Farm Pembrokeshire - Sleeps 3
David's Organic Farm Wales
The Butlers Cottage. Surrounded by over 450 acres of Organic farm land
Description
The Butlers is a snug one-bedroom cottage at the centre of David's Organic Farm - Gwarmacwydd. Wander where you wish - we share over 450 acres with you: 2.5 miles of private riverbank, 50 acres of woodland, miles of paths. More than one stay can explore - guests return, and return again. One family bedroom, a proper bath, a bird feeding station at the lounge window, and a back door into the main garden - the play area just beyond. Join the morning feeding rounds or learn to drive a John Deere. The space GWARMACWYDD One of the older farms in this corner of West Wales - a country estate in the vale of the River Taf, farmed organically by our family and certified organic since 1999. What sharing it means is simple: from your cottage door, the fields, the woodland, the old railway line and the riverbank are open to you, every day of your stay - the working farmyard and any field with livestock or machinery are the only places we keep back, and we show you the boundaries when you arrive. Walk for an hour and you need never leave the farm. A GENUINE WORKING FARM This is a real farm, not a visitor attraction. We grow our own grass, peas and oats to feed our cattle and sheep - no pesticides, no herbicides, no artificial fertilisers - and the difference shows. Organic farms carry, on average, 50% more plant, insect and bird life, and here you can hear it at dawn. Mornings begin with the animals: eggs to collect, calves and pet lambs to bottle-feed in spring, the chickens and goats twice a day whatever the weather, and in winter the cattle coming into the sheds to be fed - dramatic, warm and memorable. Guests who come in May for the bluebells and the lambs often book again for October, when the woodland turns. THE RIVER TAF The Taf runs the length of the estate - two and a half miles of it privately ours. Paddle from the shingle banks, swim the pools, skim stones, and watch for the blue flash of a kingfisher. Anglers fish it free of charge - sewin, salmon and brown trout - bring your rod licence and we will show you the best spots. FOR THE CHILDREN Children just enjoy the freedom to explore. They will drag you along to stay safe in the woods and fields and whilst they discover the river. They may even let you indulge in tea and cakes at one of our many picnic tables while they enjoy the play area, with football goal posts, several swings, slide, play fort & trampoline. THE BUTLERS ITSELF The Butlers has earned its place in the middle of it all. When Gwarmacwydd House was built around 1840, this was the household staff's cottage; today it is a warm two-storey home for a small family or a couple, standing between the main farmhouse and The Old Coach House - and because our family lives in the farmhouse, help - at any hour, day or night - is only ever a knock away. Upstairs, the bedroom takes the whole family: a king-size double, a 3ft divan alongside, and room for a cot - sleeps 2 + 1 (+ 1 infant under 3), everyone together, the way many parents of small children prefer it, with garden views from the window. Downstairs faces the garden - and the busiest few square feet on the estate. Our bird table is topped up every single day, whatever the season, and the regulars know it: a family of greater spotted woodpeckers, bullfinches, sparrows, and whoever else the month brings. Pull an armchair to the glass with a cup of tea and the show runs all day - and there is a digital TV, a DVD player and a shelf of DVDs and books for the quiet evenings. Step outside and the swings, slide and trampoline are moments from the door. The bathroom we describe plainly, because it matters to some guests: an elegant bath, and no shower. What it has instead is limitless hot water from the farm's wood-fired boiler, fuelled with timber from our own sustainable woodland - made for a long soak at the end of a farm day, not a quick rinse. If a shower matters to you, The Tower or The Old Mill will suit you better. One dog per cottage - more by arrangement. Good WiFi. TAKE THE FARMING FURTHER Hour-long, one-to-one sessions behind the wheel of one of our John Deere tractors with a working farmer - or a seat in the cab while the day's work gets done. Each is a separately priced optional extra, booked during online check-in or on arrival. Guest access Self-contained cottage. Free parking, and access to Gwarmacwydd gardens, grounds and estate of over 450 acres. Gwarmacwydd is an easy drive. We are only 5 miles from the main A40 trunk road, and 12 miles from a dual carriageway and the M4, yet as we are half a mile from the village road, it is a quiet and truly peaceful place to get away. Online check-in is required before arrival - the key code card and the exact location of your cottage are provided once check-in is complete. We will always help if you need it. Other things to note WHAT'S INCLUDED IN YOUR STAY Your booking is not just a cottage - it is the run of a 450-acre working organic farm. All of this is included, free, with every stay: - MORNING ANIMAL FEEDING - join us on the morning feeding rounds. What you feed changes with the season - calves and lambs in spring, chickens and goats twice a day whatever the weather, the cattle in the sheds through winter - and we love sharing it as much as the children love doing it. - 450 ACRES TO ROAM - miles of private tracks and several walks across the estate: along the riverbank, along the old railway line, and through 50 acres of ancient woodland - carpeted with bluebells and wild flowers in season. - THE RIVER TAF - 2.5 miles of private riverbank, all yours to enjoy. Paddle, swim, skim stones, watch for kingfishers. - FISHING - free on our own private stretch of the river - sewin, brown trout and salmon. We make no charge; you simply need to be legal, with your own rod licence - we will point you in the right direction. - THE CHILDREN'S PLAY AREA - within sight of the cottages. Many families find they never need to leave the farm at all. ADD TO YOUR STAY THE TRACTOR DRIVING EXPERIENCE - get behind the wheel of a real John Deere, one-to-one with a working farmer. IN-CAB TRACTOR RIDES - ride along as the farm's working day unfolds. Each is separately priced and booked and paid for during online check-in or on arrival - as are towel hire and your dog's stay - so you only ever pay for what you choose. We are always adding new activities and equipment - ask what's available when you book. BRINGING YOUR DOG Gwarmacwydd is a genuinely dog-friendly farm - 450 acres, riverbank and woodland walks, and fields where your dog can run off the lead, away from livestock. Well-behaved dogs are welcome for a small extra cleaning fee of £5 per dog per night, payable during online check-in or on arrival. One dog per cottage - more than one by arrangement with us in advance. Every dog that stays at Gwarmacwydd is approved in advance. When you tell us you are bringing your dog, we send you a short questionnaire - it takes only a few minutes and is part of our safeguarding policy. It means families with young children know that every dog on the farm has been cleared, and dog owners know the same about any dogs their own dog may meet. We cannot accept breeds banned under the Dangerous Dogs Act 1991, and large or powerful breeds, or any dog with a history of aggression, must be agreed with us in advance. Genuine assistance dogs stay with no fee. Full details, including our policy on comfort and emotional support dogs, are in our house rules. And for a day at the sea: over 50 of Pembrokeshire's beaches welcome dogs. Some have restricted areas during the height of summer, 1st May to the end of September - we send full details of the dog-friendly beaches after you book. FREE TO ROAM - AND SAFE TO ROAM The freedom here is real because the boundaries are clear. Gwarmacwydd is a working farm, and the working parts - the farmyard, the buildings, the fields with livestock or machinery - are kept separate from the acres you and your children are free to enjoy. When you arrive we will show you exactly where is yours to roam, and the welcome pack in your cottage has the full picture. Children are supervised by their parents at all times - and with the play area, the gardens, the riverbank and the woodland, there is no shortage of places made for them. COTS AND HIGH CHAIRS - FREE OF CHARGE Travelling with a baby or toddler? Cots and high chairs are provided free of charge. Request them during online check-in and they will be ready in your cottage before you arrive - no need to fill the car with equipment. BED LINEN & TOWELS All bed linen is included. Towels are available to hire at £5 per set - bath towel, hand towel and face towel - ordered and paid for during online check-in and waiting in your cottage when you arrive. FRESH AIR - COMPLETELY SMOKE-FREE AND VAPE-FREE Everywhere on site is smoke-free and vape-free, with no exceptions - every cottage, the grounds, the play area. Your cottage smells of nothing but clean country air, and children can play anywhere on the farm without a cigarette end in sight. CHECK - PLEASE ENSURE THE ACCOMMODATION YOU BOOK SUITS YOUR PARTY Upon receipt of the email with the details you provided during booking, please carefully review the information, and contact us within 48 hours if you notice any discrepancies. Each cottage has a specified occupancy limit that must be followed. Children up to the age of 3 can sleep in a cot; from 4 years old they need a bed. All five of our stone cottages are listed on AirBnB - so if this cottage is not quite the right fit for your party, one of the others will be: - THE OLD COACH HOUSE - sleeps 6 (2 adults + 4 children + 1 infant under 3, or 4 adults + 1 infant). Two bedrooms: king-size double (150cm), and a bunk room with two bunk beds (one 3ft/90cm, one 2ft 6in/75cm) - airbnb.co.uk/h/davids-organic-farm-the-coach-house - THE OLD BARN - sleeps 6 including infants (4 adults + 2 children). Providing false information about the number of guests staying may result in being asked to leave, due to health, safety and fire standards. The email will also contain the link to complete your required online check-in before arrival. All bookings are subject to our published standard terms and conditions. CHECK-IN As an apart-hotel style accommodation, all guests check in before receiving the key code card and being shown the exact location of their cottage. ONLINE CHECK-IN IS REQUIRED for every booking and must be completed before arrival - you will be asked to confirm the name, age, gender, full address, postcode and contact details for everyone in your party. WE WILL ALWAYS HELP - if you have any difficulty with online check-in, call our office, Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and we will complete it with you over the phone. Why we do this: it is a legal requirement that we know who is staying with us (Hotel Records Order 1972), an insurance and fire-safety requirement, and part of our safeguarding policy. Knowing exactly who is on the estate is one of the reasons Gwarmacwydd feels so safe - for children roaming free, and for every guest. If check-in has not been completed before arrival, entry will be severely delayed or refused, with no refund - full details are in our house rules. THIRD-PARTY BOOKINGS We do not accept third-party bookings - the person who books must be one of the guests staying, and every guest is named at check-in. This is also AirBnB's own policy: the person who makes the reservation must be the person who stays. Each listing is for the named cottage only, for the party named on the booking. It is part of the same promise: we know everyone staying on the farm, so every family here can relax. If the person who booked does not arrive as a guest, entry will be refused with no refund, unless a genuine emergency has been agreed with us in advance - full details are in our house rules. ARRIVING AFTER DARK Gwarmacwydd is deep in the countryside, with no street lights for miles - on a clear night, the stars alone are worth the journey. If you will be arriving after dark, complete your online check-in in advance and phone to let us know when to expect you. We will have the lights on, the heating warm, and the door unlocked with the key waiting inside - we will tell you exactly where when you call. No fumbling with a keysafe in the dark at the end of a long journey - this is a very safe corner of the countryside, and that is part of what you are coming for. A torch for the walk from your car is a good idea.
