Country Experience Swaying in the wind, arriving at a place where time stands still, the earth is embraced, silence fills the air, and the pleasure of having made it there suggests a feeling of rest. The space Casa Candonga is a single-family house located in the heart of the historic center of Frías. The town center sprawls along the southern slope of La Muela, a promontory on which stand the rock castle of the Dukes of Frías, the Church of San Vicente, and the famous hanging houses. The village is laid out in linear neighborhoods of townhouses that follow the slope of the land, with the streets running parallel to the contour lines. As with Casa Candonga, the houses can be accessed from two streets: the higher street provides access to the upper part of the house, and the lower street allows access from the lower part. This allows us to divide the house into two apartments with independent entrances, but connected internally via a staircase that links all the floors. This mid-slope location gives the house a unique layout, with a retaining wall made of tufa stone masonry to the north and a façade with large windows overlooking the surrounding valley to the south. The brightness and beauty of the landscape visible from the rooms will make you never want to leave them. Each apartment has two double bedrooms, with a capacity for up to four people. It can be rented separately or as a whole, so the maximum capacity of the house is eight people. The house has been completely renovated, following the traditional construction methods of the area: tufa stone masonry walls with a wooden structure and floor slabs, and a renovated Arab-tile roof. It has been lovingly decorated in an effort to preserve the spirit of the houses of yesteryear. We have even reused furniture that was already in the house, which, after careful restoration, has been given new life. Other things to note It features modern, smart-home facilities, which are managed remotely and intelligently, with a constant focus on user comfort and environmental care. It has keypad access and video surveillance at the entrances. Image recording is limited exclusively to the exterior. This system is designed to maximize security, prevent illegal occupancy, and prevent acts of vandalism or misuse. The heating and hot water system runs on biomass (pellets), which means zero net CO₂ emissions. This is because pellets are made from sawdust from sawmills and waste from pruning and clearing activities carried out in the surrounding area, and although they emit CO2 when burned, they sequester it during their growth phase. Furthermore, it is a locally sourced energy source, is abundant, and creates wealth in the community. The home automation system is programmed to adjust energy consumption based on the occupancy of the apartments and the outside temperature. The building is well insulated to reduce heat loss in winter and keep the house cool in summer.
