Designed by the architect of Seattle’s iconic Space Needle, and originally built for renowned artist Alden Mason, this mid-century architectural gem features a warm MCM cabin aesthetic. The space includes 2 bedrooms, a full kitchen, and 1 full bath. Guests enjoy private access to the hot tub, fire pit, outdoor dining area, and detached yoga/office studio. Views toward Portage Bay. Street parking and close to UW. The space This listing is for the upper duplex two-bedroom portion of the home only. The downstairs studio has its own private entrance and may be rented separately, or the entire property can be booked as a whole-house rental. There is no shared space with any Studio guests, as the Duplex is a completely self-contained and separate unit. Designed by Victor Steinbrueck, the architect of Seattle’s Space Needle, and originally built for artist Alden Mason, this unique mid-century home has been professionally remodeled with a cozy mid-century cabin vibe. NOTE: There is major construction happening in the bay in front of our house. We have not been given set dates of when the project will be loud and disruptive, and so far, there have only been a handful of days when that has been the case. We do not want any of our guests to experience that during their stay. Please reach out to Maile, our House Manager, who is getting weekly updates on the status of the road project and can let you know, to the best of our ability, if your dates will be during the quiet periods. The Space The upper Duplex level includes: Bedroom 1 – Queen bed Bedroom 2 – Trundle bed with 2 twin beds 1 full bathroom with shower/tub combo and heated floors Comfortable living and dining area Fully remodeled kitchen with high-end appliances and a 5-burner gas stove Air conditioning throughout Full laundry located downstairs. Outdoor Amenities: For private use by Duplex guests only. Hot tub Firepit and outdoor dining Detached yoga / office studio The property sits above the street with views toward Portage Bay and the marina. Located in Seattle’s Portage Bay neighborhood, the home is located between the University District, Capitol Hill, and Eastlake. The area is known for its marinas, houseboats, and rowing culture. Public shoreline access and waterfront parks are within walking distance where you can watch boats, rowing teams, and seaplanes on the bay. Downtown Seattle, Pike Place Market, and the Space Needle are about 10–15 minutes away. OTHER THINGS TO NOTE: •We require all of our guests to sign a rental agreement before staying at the Portage Bay Duplex Retreat. We send it out after booking and you will be able to do an electronic signature online. •The basement laundry area may occasionally be used by our cleaning staff while cleaning the downstairs Studio unit. Our cleaners will not access the Duplex while cleaning the Studio Unit. No other guests have access to the laundry area. Good to Know: •Street parking only •About 40 stairs from the street to reach the house •The downstairs studio may be rented to other guests during your stay •Dogs welcome with approval with an additional pet fee •Air conditioning included •Located near the SR-520 corridor, where construction activity may sometimes be visible or audible during weekday hours This space is ideal for travelers who enjoy unique architecture and thoughtfully designed homes. Guest access Guests of the Duplex have private access to the whole backyard with the hot tub, fire pit and office/yoga studio. Washer and Dryer are also available for guests to use. Please note: the laundry area (located in the basement) is also used occasionally by our cleaning crew for the downstairs studio - no other guests have access to this space. Our cleaners access the laundry area via the Studio, and will not have any access to the upstairs Duplex portion of this listing while they are cleaning. Other things to note There are a lot of stairs (40) to get up to the main house, as such, this property is not suitable for anyone with mobility limitations. There are an additional 16 steps up to the detached office/yoga studio. Also, during the week, there will be the potential of construction noise, from 8am - 5pm, as the city is working on building a new bridge.
