The Gatekeepers Cottage Beacons at the Door
The Gatekeepers Cottage Beacons at the Door
Description
A tranquil retreat on the 192 -acre Llwynywermod Estate – .Surrounded by rolling fields and woodland, this charming courtyard cottage blends traditional character with modern comfort. Relax in your private enclosed garden, explore the estate’s wildflower meadows. Wake to birdsong and mist over hills. Bannau Brycheiniog is nearby – perfect for hiking, trails, cycling, and discovering waterfalls and charming Welsh villages. Walking boots optional but recommended. The space Tucked into the historic courtyard of Llwynywermod — once the private Welsh residence of King Charles III — Gatekeeper’s Cottage is the smallest of the estate’s cottages, and arguably the most charming. Two bedrooms and a private garden of its own make it the perfect size for couples or small families who’d rather spend their days on the hills than rattling around a big house. You'll be staying moments from Myddfai, the village at the heart of a centuries-old Welsh legend: the Physicians of Myddfai, a medieval lineage said to have learned the art of healing from a lake spirit and passed their remedies down through generations. Nearby Llyn Fach — a still, folklore- steeped lake long associated with healing and reflection - remains a quiet pilgrimage for those seeking calm. Guests drawn to Reiki, yoga or simply reflective walking will find this landscape has been considered a place of restoration for hundreds of years, long before the word 'wellness' existed." And the hills are the whole point. Some of the Brecon Beacons’ finest walking routes start within minutes of the front door — waterfall trails, ridge walks, wild swimming spots known mostly to locals. Come back muddy and tired, and the cottage does the rest: a proper bath to soak sore legs, and a private garden to watch the evening close in over the estate’s 192 acres. Sleeps 4 · 2 bedrooms, 1 bathroom · Private garden · Dogs welcome by arrangement Yoga massage reiki are available on request Other things to note Llwynywermod is my home to share — a 192-acre estate in the Brecon Beacons that was once the private Welsh residence of King Charles III. Today it’s home to three individual cottages — North Cottage, West Cottage, and Gatekeeper’s Cottage — each restored with care, each offering its own private space within the same historic courtyard. Beyond the cottages, this is a place designed for slowing down. On-site wellness experiences can be arranged with advance notice, including therapeutic massage, Reiki, and holistic healing treatments, guided walks through the estate’s wildflower meadows and ancient woodland, and a private chef for an intimate evening in. Whether it’s a romantic weekend or a longer restorative escape, these touches turn a stay here into something guests remember long after they’ve left. For the more active guest, mountain biking and paddleboarding can be arranged nearby, with qualified guides and trainers on hand. Whether you’re exploring countryside trails by bike or gliding across the water under expert guidance, it’s another way to add adventure to a restorative stay. I look after all three cottages personally, so whether you’re booking one for a quiet retreat or all three for a family gathering or group of friends, you’re getting the same attention to detail and the same slice of Welsh history throughout. Guests often ask about combining cottages for larger groups — happy to help coordinate that directly, just send a message before booking. I respond quickly and love making sure every stay here feels effortless. Starlink satellite WiFi is in the cottage and onsite / reliable enough for video calls, uploads and remote work , even out here in the countryside.
