Lakeside Cabin (1 bedroom), Käsivarsi, Enontekiö
Description
Remote cabin at the Kelottijärvi lake between Hetta and Kilpisjärvi. As typical for Finnish holiday cabins there is electricity but no running water. After a long day exploring the area you can relax in a sauna and cool down in the Kelottijärvi lake. 1 bushel of firewood is provided by week. More can be arranged ahead of time. The location is close to the well-known German road leading up to the tundra. The space This is a remote cabin beside Kelottijärvi lake c. half-way between Hetta and Kilpisjärvi. Although the cabin only c. 300m from the main road, the road itself is not visible from the cabins so once you are there, you will feel as if you are in the middle of no-where. We call it our ‘easy access wilderness cabin’. In winter we have to hire a snowplough to create a layby for a car / open access to the cabin when needed - but we still recommend leaving your car on the layby by the road since it might be hard to get back out to the road if a new load of snow falls after the cabin road has been ploughed. In summer, you can drive your car down the hill and park near to the cabin. As typical for Finnish holiday cabins, the cabin has electricity and heating (as well as a fireplace) but no running water. FYI: Although there is a fireplace in both the kitchen and bedroom, the bedroom fireplace is not safe to use! 1 bushel of firewood is provided per week. (The majority of people who rent this property do so in summer and do not have a huge firewood need). If you will require more, please let us know in advance or bring additional wood with you. In the main cabin there is one main living-room-kitchen-dining room and one bedroom with a double bunkbed and 1 single bed. Both rooms have a wonderful lake view. The toilet is a traditional dry toilet in its own small toilet building between the main cabin and the lake. It is pretty rustic! There is also a small root cellar but this is not in use. The wood-fueled sauna is in a separate building closer to the lake (which can also sleep an extra person at a push). An adjacent building has bunkbed accommodation for a further 4 people - although we do not normally open this unless there is a specific request. After a long day exploring the area you can relax in the sauna or cool down in the Kelottijärvi lake. The location is close to a well-known German road which leads up onto the tundra and from which, there is access to the Lätäseno River in summer. The German road is really fun to explore by bike and there are lots of little river tributaries and islands which are fun to potter around on if you are exploring by kayak or canoe. If requested you can rent kayaks, canoes, fat-bikes or E-bikes from us which we can take there so that they are available to you during your stay. There are two large traditional wooden boats on the beach but they do not belong to the cabin so please do not use them – we do not even know how sea-worthy they are! Guest access The cabin is in a remote location you will need your own car to access it. It is also important to have a vehicle to be able to access the closest shop which is c. 20 mins away in the border town of Karesuvanto. There you can also find a gas station, a restaurant and a hotel with camping site. (FYI: The two food shops on the Swedish side of the border are slightly larger than the shop on the Finnish side. There is also a butcher shop, a community swimming pool, a nature centre, a botanical garden and additional restaurants on that side of the border). Kilpisjärvi is about 85km / 1 hour from the Cabin towards the West. This is a much more touristic centre than Karasuando and has food shops, sports shops, bars and accommodation.
