Stay in the private residence behind Kolmar House General Store, located on the main street of Harrow, Victoria. The store has been trading continuously since 1881, and is believed to be Australia’s longest continuously operating general store. This two-storey home sits behind the historic shop with tiered gardens rising up the block, offering a quiet and comfortable place to stay while visiting the West Wimmera region. The space The house features a full kitchen and open-plan living area that leads to a large private verandah with outdoor dining, converted in the 1980s using the original shop Sleeping arrangements include: • Master bedroom (upstairs) with queen bed and ensuite • Ground floor bedroom with queen and single bed • Second bathroom located on the ground floor This layout provides extra comfort and privacy for families, friends travelling together, or couples sharing the space. A rollaway bed can be provided for a sixth guest on request, with a charge. All expected modern conveniences are included and on-site parking is available. Location The house is located right on Harrow’s historic main street, with several local attractions within easy walking distance. Within 150 metres you will find: • Harrows Historic Pub - The Hermitage Hotel • The Harrow Post Cafe • Calico & Candles shop • The Harrow Historical Society museum • The Harrow Discovery Centre, celebrating Australia’s first touring Aboriginal cricket team and local legend Johnny Mullagh Across the road you’ll also find Johnny Mullagh Park and the Glenelg River walking track, perfect for a relaxed stroll. And of course just steps away from Kolmar House General Store, where you can pick up coffee, groceries, local produce and supplies during shop hours Harrow is one of Victoria’s oldest inland towns, and its streets are full of fascinating stories from Australia’s early pastoral and frontier history. ⸻ Exploring the Region Harrow is also a great base for exploring the wider region. Within about an hour’s drive you can visit: • The Grampians National Park • The World Heritage-listed Naracoorte Caves • Rocklands Reservoir, popular for fishing, boating and birdlife The surrounding West Wimmera landscape is known for its wide open spaces, wildlife and quiet country roads. Guest access Guests have private access to the entire residence including: • Full kitchen • Living and dining area • Private verandah • Garden surrounds • On-site parking The residence is separate from the shop area but attached to the same historic building. Other things to note Kolmar House is a working general store, and the residence is attached to the building. Some normal shop activity may occasionally be heard during trading hours. Evenings and overnight are generally very quiet once the store closes.
