Lie there listening to your own Highland burn running through the garden, or watch the Highland ponies as the sun sets over the loch and the herons glide in for the night. The sights and sounds are timeless and very special - birds are plentiful and wild life abounds – rare red squirrels and deer are frequently seen from the cottage. Why not arrange to fish on the River Isla (fishing for wild brown trout on the River Isla included in the rent ) (or if you are interested in salmon fishing in Scotland we can advise you about how to arrange that too), hire mountain bikes, or just relax in the hot tub while our chef prepares a romantic dinner. We can also do your shopping or laundry, collect you from the airport, book golf, pony-trekking. In winter ski at Glenshee, the UK's most extensive ski area, 30 minutes away. You can walk for miles from the doorstep, through a profusion of wild flowers (part of the glen is a wild flower reserve), or along woodland paths to the Fairy Glen and the high tops. Golf courses, distilleries, good restaurants and castles are all nearby. Babies are very welcome and we can provide a travel cot, high chair and changing mat. This gorgeous honeymoon cottage in Scotland has a spacious beamed living/dining-room with cast-iron multi-fuel stove, deep sofa with plenty of cushions, free wifi, TV and DVD player. Spiral stairs lead to the first floor and a galleried double bedroom with extra-long kingsize bed and beamed ceiling overlooking the sitting room, making it very light and airy. Any or all of this can be arranged secretly: our honeymooners love to order champagne and canapés as a surprise. Scotland is famous for the quality of its ingredients, much of it organic. Our aim is to produce food that truly reflects the Estate’s location; our own organic venison and game, heather-fed Blackface lamb, Aberdeen Angus beef, excellent local cheese, eggs from our own hens and organic vegetables. We can bring you wonderfully fresh seafood from the North Sea and Atlantic Coasts: we offer seafood feasts including local, freshly caught (normally that day) lobster, oysters, mussels, crabs and prawns. Our menus change to reflect the best foods the seasons have to offer. Wild raspberries grow on the fringes of our woods and blueberries all over the moor. We get our organic strawberries and raspberries 20 minutes from the Estate, from the extensive berry fields of Strathmore. Why not settle back for some quality time and let someone else do the work? Our own wild raspberries are so famous that the Royal Botanic Gardens at Kew collected some of our seeds in 2019 from within 100 metres of this cottage, which are now in the World Seed Bank in an ice cave in Svalbard in arctic Norway, being protected against a future climate catastrophe. We can arrange wine and whisky delivery and can advise on whiskies compatible with particular menus. We also offer specialist evenings, for example a Burns Night which starts with a whisky tasting, then a local piper plays you into dinner, followed by the famous ‘Address to the Haggis’ by Robert Burns, and the opportunity to taste Haggis: (vegetarian Haggis can be provided). Foodies love to go to the local salmon smokery to sample the best which Scotland has to offer and/ or trips to distilleries like Macallan and Glenfiddich and Grouse.
