Thyta House
Description
The elliptical house The space Glimpsed from the sea below, Thyta House’s ephemeral elliptical forms and gracefully curvaceous motifs melt away into the emerald hillside from which it emerges. Native flora camouflages its roofs, further obscuring its presence and emphasising its symbiotic relationship with the surrounding landscape. Understated and inconspicuous it may be, but Thyta House is also an ingenious and remarkable gem of contemporary architecture that delights at every turn. Inside: accommodation at Thyta House is laid out over two floors and an externally accessed guest room. The main entrance leads into a voluminous and welcoming hallway whose large picture window frames a lemon tree at one end of a secluded terrace. On the right is a guest WC. Heading straight on, a walkway leads up into the hub of the home, a generously proportioned, luminous, and enchantingly panoramic space. Conceived as a pavilion, it has fully extendable walls of sliding glass that open out on either side, allowing guests to enjoy a seamless indoor-outdoor lifestyle. The views out over Desimi beach, the sparkling water of the bay, and the neighbouring island of Meganissi are simply breathtaking. Neatly divided into two sections by a partial dividing wall, the first part of this magnificent space is dedicated to a sleek, high-spec kitchen with a large, marble-topped island-bar and a wall of white cabinetry and appliances. The second part hosts a wooden dining table, a long contemporary sofa, a clutch of designer armchairs, and a discreet fireplace. The flooring, a fundamental feature that flows throughout the house and out onto the terraces, is a delicate mosaic design created using snow-white marble from Thassos. Back in the hallway, stairs lead up to the first floor, which is set back into the hillside and separated from the ground floor by a secluded courtyard terrace. A voluminous landing features fully retractable sliding glass doors opening out onto a sea-view terrace, and, on the opposite side, more glass doors that frame a section of the mountain out of which the upper floor has been carved. There are three double bedrooms, each with walls of fully retractable sliding glass doors, superlative sea views, access to a long shady terrace, and an impeccably finished en-suite bathroom (two with showers, one with a curvaceous stone tub). The final bedroom, the guest room, is located below the entrance to the main house and is accessed externally from its own terrace. It hosts a double bed, a kitchen corner, and an en-suite shower room with a skylight and a shower window looking out to sea. Outside: the architectural verve and ingenuity of Thyta House is perhaps best appreciated from its multi-dimensional al fresco areas. The roof of the ground floor is a graceful sweep of curves that extends out over the terraces below. A floating, lattice-work pergola unfolds around it in an ammonite swirl, offering dappled shade, while a pair of oculi pierce the roof to allow those below to gaze up at the cerulean sky and the emerald hillside. Native flora carpets the roof, wrapping around an uber-panoramic suntrap with in-built seating that's accessed via a walkway-bridge from the terrace outside the bedrooms on the first floor. The views from here offer a fabulous panoramic snapshot of your surroundings – from the bay and golden beach of Desimi and out over the sparkling water to the neighbouring island of Meganissi and beyond. The open-concept communal space on the ground floor features fully retractable walls of sliding glass, which open up on two sides. On the sea-view side of the house is a long and comfortably furnished terrace, which runs round one side of the house to a shaded al fresco dining area. It then continues round to a secluded courtyard area. From here, steps lead up to the terrace outside the first-floor bedrooms. Following a path beyond the al fresco dining area one soon comes to the fabulous infinity pool, whose smooth, rounded edges create an elegant, elongated teardrop form. A shallow, beach-effect section is perfect for cooling off. Parts of the route to this property include some quite steep twists and turns and narrow stretches of road. We recommend guests rent smaller cars with higher ground clearance rather than large people carriers or mini vans. Due to the nature of the property including terraces, low walls several drops around the grounds, children must be supervised at all times. Thyta House features a fantastic infinity pool, offering swimmers stunning views while in the pool. There is a drop off the infinity side so we recommend children are supervised at all times. Please refer to our general safety page if you would like more information about infinity pools. Registration Details 00003377173
