The space La Chambre de Madame Pompadour Welcome to our historic home, built around 1800 and nestled in a peaceful village in the heart of the Creuse. Carefully renovated in 2025–26, La Maison de la Grange blends authentic old-world character with modern comfort. Stone walls, exposed wooden beams, oak floors, antique furnishings, and open-hearth fireplaces create a warm, rustic atmosphere during the cooler months, while summer brings long days of sunshine, fresh countryside air, and peaceful village life. For your comfort during the warm French summer, air conditioning was installed in La Chambre de Madame Pompadour in July 2026, as well as in the shared living room. Enjoy the shared bathroom complete with rain shower head, bathrobes and luxury l’Occitane soaps, and feel free to relax in the house or the garden. After a day exploring the Creuse countryside, you can return to a cool, comfortable European double bedroom and enjoy a restful night’s sleep — even during France’s intense summer heatwave. Guests may reserve an evening meal at our Tables d’Hôtes, served between 18:00 and 21:00. We offer both light and full menu options, along with charcuterie boards for relaxed snacking. From French classics to artisanal pizzas, the chef/host loves to cook, so ask what’s on the menu! Meals must be reserved by 12:00 noon on the day of service so that everything can be freshly prepared. As a licensed restaurant, we also offer a carefully selected range of house and premium wines, Champagne from our cellar, beers, classic and signature cocktails (like the Madame Sévigné cocktail or mocktail), cognac, and non-alcoholic drinks for purchase. For a meal or drinks in your room, Helen can prepare and bring up what you like with easy credit card or account payment. Before booking, please note that we share our home with two exceptionally friendly dachshunds. A love of animals is essential. They may greet you enthusiastically, hope for a treat, attempt a cuddle, and remain firmly convinced that every guest has arrived especially to see them. For guests who are uncomfortable around dogs, our home may not be the right fit. We enjoy good French food, wine, cognac, long conversations, and sharing the story of why we fell in love with this beautiful part of France. This is a 225-year-old stone home rather than a modern hotel. Its walls are thick, but not completely soundproof, and we invite guests to appreciate the history, character, and gently lived-in atmosphere that make the house special. Come and experience spring poppies, grazing sheep, Limousin cattle, rolling countryside, quiet roads, historic villages, and traces of the past around every corner. Parking is located across from the church, just a short walk to our property. The town and parking is safe and secure. If you are coming by motorcycle or electric bike, check if we can store your bike in our grange. Guest access Guests are welcome to enjoy the shared spaces of our home, including the air conditioned living room, dining room, and the rustic entrance area with its open fireplace. The outdoor garden is also available for relaxing and enjoying the peaceful surroundings. You will have access to your private bedroom and a shared bathroom. NOTE: Please note that the kitchen is private, and the hosts’ living quarters and additional bedrooms are not accessible to guests. These areas are clearly marked. During your stay For any issues, Helen can be reached by AirBNB Messages, which she received immediately. Feel free to connect with Helen prior to your arrival on any breakfast preferences; allergies or food sensitivities; and if you would like to reserve for table d’hotes meals. Helen is also happy to prepare an itinerary of key things to visit and see when you are here, based on the time that you will be in the area. As a trained historian, she loves introducing people to the key historical background of the Creuse and Saint Martial le Mont area. Whether coming for work, house hunting, visiting family or outdoor or cultural activities, Helen and her husband are happy to share their unique home to make your stay the best it can be. Other things to note If you arrange for our amazing Tables d'Hôtes dinner in the evening, meal time is 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. We have light and full menu options for our guests, and a charcuterie board for snacking, but advance booking is required (by 12 noon) for preparation. We are also a licensed restaurant with an excellent assortment of house and premium wines/champagne from our cellar, beers, cocktails, and also non-alcoholic drinks for purchase. We have two very nice dogs on site and allow only one dog per booking. Unfortunately, we cannot accommodate multiple dogs. A surcharge of €10 per dog per night applies. In accordance with our terms and conditions, this rate is displayed on our Gîtes de France listing, outside the property, inside the house, and in the welcome booklet for each room.
