From here, you can observe ships passing by on their way to and from Hamburg – from the imposing container giants to the elegant cruise ships. Brunsbüttel, a town of about 13,000 inhabitants, is situated at the intersection of the Elbe and the North Sea-Baltic Sea Canal, the southernmost point in the district of Dithmarschen. As an industrial and port city with the most significant seaport on the West Coast of Schleswig-Holstein, Brunsbüttel is a fascinating place, boasting its proximity to the Hamburg metropolitan region and the lock installations of the North Sea-Baltic Sea Canal, the most trafficked artificial waterway in the world. These attractions, along with the local port, are perfect for extended exploration on foot.
