Nestled in the Hiawatha National Forest in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, on 270 feet of Thunder Lake frontage shared with the Thunder Lake Lodge, the rustic Thunder Lake Cabin is your home for fishing, swimming, boating, mushroom hunting; berry picking, hikes in the woods, family fun, hunting in season, sightseeing in the UP, and more. This cozy 2 bedroom, 1 bath cabin sleeps up to 6 guests. It is an ideal spot for a get-away or vacation and is available from late spring to early fall. The fishing is outstanding: Thunder Lake has been called the second-best bluegill lake in the state. Plus, there’s small mouth bass, perch, pike, and more. Come in the summer for fishing, boating, swimming, berry picking, and family fun. Take your boat out for a cruise around beautiful Thunder Lake: over half of the shoreline is state and national forest, with nature at its best. The swimming area is great for adults and kids, with the crystal-clear water of the lake and a sandy bottom with plenty of safe shallows for children to enjoy. Come in the fall for hunting during small game or bow and rifle deer seasons. Enjoy beautiful days and quiet nights. The night sky can be stunning and the sunsets gorgeous. The cabin features two bedrooms, each with a full-size double bed and all new mattresses. The sofa bed means you can sleep six. Linens (sheets and pillowcases, but not towels) and pillows are provided. The kitchen is fully equipped for fixing and serving meals, with plenty of cookware, dishes, and table service. The small bathroom has a shower. Kayaks and a rowboat are available, and the public boat landing is adjacent to the property: launch your boat and bring it right over to the dock. Located between Munising on Lake Superior and Manistique on Lake Michigan, the cabin is centrally located for many of the Upper Peninsula’s best attractions, each accessible on a day trip from the cabin: Intriguing Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore is nearby at Munising, with many waterfalls in the area. [37 miles] Charming Mackinac Island is steeped in history (and delicious chocolate treats). [114 miles] Impressive Tahquamenon Falls is the second largest waterfall east of the Mississippi (second only to Niagara Falls!). [102 miles] Historic Fayette State Park features a recreated iron smelting village. [36 miles] Kitch-iti-kipi, aka the Big Spring, is Michigan’s largest freshwater spring, pours out 10,000 gallons per minute, and is home to impressively large trout. (It’s in Palms Book State Park. No fishing!!). [13 miles] Unique Great Lakes Shipwreck Museum at Whitefish Point, tells the story of shipping on the Great Lakes and is home of the bell of the Edmund Fitzgerald. [130 miles] The mighty Soo Locks at Sault Ste. Marie on the Canadian border makes the connection between Lake Superior and the lower Great Lakes. [137 miles] Beautiful Seney National Wildlife Refuge provides a home to many important wildlife species.
