Domaine de L'Ormeau: Normandy estate, pool and hot tub

Domaine de L'Ormeau is a 19th-century Caen-stone family home, beautifully renovated and set in two hectares of enclosed private parkland in historic Falaise, a short walk from William the Conqueror's castle. Seven bedrooms sleep 14, with elegant reception rooms, a restored baby grand piano and a dining table for 14 under Venetian chandeliers. A private 15 m heated indoor pool, a sauna and an outdoor hot tub make it a rare place to bring two or three families together. The space Made for gatherings. Built in the 19th century from Caen stone, L'Ormeau is one of the few houses in Falaise to have survived the Second World War. It has since been restored with a leading architect and interior designer, and many pieces were brought back to life by skilled craftspeople. In the town yet completely private, L'Ormeau has two hectares of enclosed park all to yourselves, with lawns, sequoias and views of the castle. The grand ground-floor rooms flow one into another: a drawing room with a baby grand piano, a bar lounge, a library and a dining room where all 14 guests sit together beneath Venetian chandeliers. Upstairs, a cinema and games room gives the children and teenagers a space of their own. The house is ideally suited to 8 to 14 guests, or two or three families travelling together. Seven bedrooms sleep 14 across the first and second floors: two king-size, two queen-size and one double bed, plus four single beds, with two cots for little ones. The four first-floor bedrooms each have their own bathroom, en suite or private on the landing. On the second floor, three bedrooms share two bathrooms, and there is a ground-floor shower room. All bedrooms are upstairs. The ground floor has an entrance hall, a drawing room with a restored baby grand piano, a bar lounge stocked with local wines, ciders and calvados, a dining room seating 14 under Venetian chandeliers, a fully equipped kitchen and a library. The top floor has a TV and cinema room. Throughout: André Renault bedding, Alexandre Turpault linen and Linvosges towels, Raynaud porcelain and Ercuis silverware, fast wifi in every room, a dedicated workspace and a Sonos and Devialet sound system. For entertainment there is a Nintendo Switch, table football and board games. Pool and spa: your private wellness pavilion, a 15 m indoor pool in a glasshouse opening onto the park, heated to about 29°C from April to early November and open all year. It has massage jets, a swim-against current and a 30 cm shallow area for children. Beside it are an infrared sauna, a massage room (treatments can be arranged), a changing room, shower and kitchenette, with an outdoor hot tub on the terrace. Pool towels are provided, and the pool has lockable glass doors and a rigid safety cover. Please note that the swimming pool and hot tub are not available on your departure day, so our team can begin servicing them from around 7–8am. Outside: an enclosed, private park of around two hectares, newly replanted, with giant sequoias and centuries-old trees, lawns, a terrace with outdoor furniture and barbecue, a children's play area and outdoor games (badminton, pétanque, Swedish skittles and palet breton), with views of the castle. Families: travel cot, high chair, changing table, an indoor play space, a children's play area in the park, garden games, and a Nintendo Switch, table football and a cinema room for rainy days. Housekeeping: every stay includes at least two hours of daily housekeeping. Guest access Check-in is available from 3:00 pm. Please let us know your expected arrival time in advance and keep us updated if your plans change, so we can coordinate your welcome. Jane or a member of our local team will welcome you in person, show you around the property and explain how to use the main facilities, including the swimming pool, spa and security system. Please allow approximately 30–40 minutes for this introduction. Before your stay, we will send you the house guide and create a group to connect you with the team and coordinate your arrival. Other things to note Children are very welcome and must be supervised by an adult at all times, especially around the pool, spa, sauna, hot tub, decorative basin and grounds, and on the stairs. Breakfast is not included. On request, we can arrange breakfast, chef-prepared meals from our house menu (dinners, light lunches, family meals and picnics), Normandy cheeses, a selection of wine, cider and Calvados, and celebration cakes from Maison Chapuis in Falaise. Some specialities, such as lobster, langoustines, turbot and Côte de Bœuf, are ordered in advance and depend on the market. Please tell us about allergies or dietary needs when you book. Every stay includes at least two hours of daily housekeeping (gouvernante) to tidy and refresh the house. Additional hours can be arranged as an optional extra, for example for a hotel-style refresh of the bedrooms each morning, or help with breakfast and with lunch or dinner service. We can also arrange babysitting and help you plan activities. The indoor pool is heated to about 29°C from April to early November. The outdoor hot tub is kept at about 36°C. Air-conditioning is in the Drawing Room and two south-facing first-floor bedrooms only. The second floor can be warm in summer, so fans are provided. The fireplaces are decorative only. Laundry facilities are available for stays of over a week or by arrangement. Extra towels and linen are available on request. Our garden and pool team look after the grounds, pool and hot tub several times a week, usually early and discreetly. Exterior security cameras cover only the entrances and garden areas. There are no cameras in any indoor living or private space. Friendly local cats sometimes wander through the park. Please don't feed them or let them indoors.
