Description
Perhaps you want a taste of home. You want to get out beyond the walls of a hotel and see what real life is like in Soroti. We welcome you to experience the laid-back, family feel of our working household and the private comfort of our guest wing. I have had the honor of hosting friends from all over the world. We understand that people have different needs and will work to ensure a comfortable stay. Our quiet neighborhood is minutes from town. Great for couples and solo adventurers. The space We have a spacious master bedroom in one wing of our home. It contains a private bathroom with a European sitting toilet and a shower / tub. It has large windows for great light and air flow. It can be locked. Guest access There is a large common area that separates the two residential wings of the home. You are welcome to relax in the common area. There is also a patio area in the back of the house, shared by all members of the household. You are welcome to join in whatever is going on on this patio, whether shelling peanuts, crocheting, or chatting. Every morning, starting at 8 am, we will have hot water ready for tea and instant coffee. Our breakfasts are simple: sliced bread and peanut butter or Blue Band, and sometimes porridge. Like most homes in Soroti, we don’t have a refrigerator, and thus have limitations on items that we can keep, such as butter or fresh milk. Previous guests have opted to purchase powdered milk or their favorite coffee brands to supplement our offerings. You are also welcome to purchase eggs, fruits, or other breakfast items, and we can help you prepare them. During your stay Someone from our household will be available to answer questions or direct you as needed. We are happy to give you the space and privacy that you need; we are equally happy to let you know more about our community, as you like. We have listed Esther as a co-host to our home because we know that sometimes it is nice to hear what it's like to visit a place from the perspective of another visitor. Esther lived in Soroti for a number of years and frequently visits. Feel free to contact her with any questions. Other things to note We are happy to provide a USB modem for internet access during your stay, with a $35 USD holding fee (payable in shillings), refunded to you as you return the modem. You are responsible for purchasing the internet bundle of your choice to activate the modem; this is easily accomplished in town. This internet connection can be broadcast to multiple devices if you bring a laptop with wifi broadcasting capabilities. Due to poorly maintained local infrastructure, Soroti Town does experience infrequent water and power interruptions. Former guests have brought or bought power packs to supply energy to their laptops and/or cellphones. Major hotels in town run generators, so it is always possible to visit one of them to charge devices. Should there be a water interruption, we will provide you with water for showering / toilet in containers. Regarding drinking water, we advise guests to bring their own filtration or treatment system for a long-term stay, or to plan on purchasing bottled water if you are with us for a couple days. While our water is considered potable, it is difficult to predict how it will affect visitors.
