This one — hull number RFBU 907363‑2, a 40-foot high cube sea container from the fleet of Bimicon Container Service GmbH in Hamburg — spent years at sea, carrying cargo between ports and continents, and has seen more of the world than most of us do in a lifetime. Its steel walls, which withstood salt water, wind and weather for years, still carry that history within them. In 2024, we gave it a second journey: instead of cargo, it now carries memories. What was once a pure workhorse of the global economy has become a place to arrive — upcycling in the truest sense, nothing new taken from the earth, just something that already existed, reimagined with respect for where it came from. There's a particular feeling to spending the night inside a shipping container: the massive steel walls that once withstood container stacks on the open sea now wrap around you like a calm, sheltering shell. Inside, though, there's no cold metal waiting — just a warmly furnished, stylish home away from home, with smart home controls, air conditioning, a fully equipped kitchen and your own bathroom.
