Honey Hill is part of the Groenhuis Guesthouses in the historic town of Philippolis. The name “Heuning Heuwel” refers to a hill where beehives once thrived. During the Anglo-Boer War (1899–1902), the hill was occupied by British forces, and remnants of the stone fortifications can still be seen. Just behind the cottage lies the Klipdriftkuil, where General C.R. de Wet’s horse once drank water. Honey Hill offering guests an authentic small farm experience with beautiful countryside views. The space This cottage is a lovingly renovated former farm worker’s house and offers a peaceful farm-style stay with the convenience of being in town. The cottage features one bedroom, a bathroom, a kitchenette, and a private stoep where you can relax and take in the beautiful countryside views. Guests also have access to a secure, enclosed garden — perfect for dogs. This cottage forms part of Philippolis Groenhuise, a collection of restored historic Karoo guesthouses in Philippolis. If your preferred cottage is booked, send us a message — we may have another Groenhuise cottage available. Guest access Guests are welcome to explore Honey Hill (21 hectares). Please keep dogs on a leash when outside the cottage’s enclosed garden, as there may be farm animals and wildlife on the property, including sheep, horses, meerkats, and blue cranes. Other things to note Guests can enjoy open views, fresh air, and the sounds of farm life. If you’re lucky, you may spot a flock of blue cranes or a grey rhebok roaming the area.
