The backyard is large and great for family games or family gathering around the italan garden & fire pit. Head out the back street to Quart pot creek for a creekside stroll into downtown Stanthorpe. Food & Wine & Acitiviy Options: Brinx Deli – Located on the right as you arrive on High Street, Brinx is the perfect place to begin your café journey. Offering both takeaway and dine-in options for coffee, breakfast, and lunch, their deli is also well stocked with specialty items—ideal for putting together a creekside picnic. Em’s Café – Conveniently positioned directly opposite Brinx, this is another excellent spot for coffee and casual dining. Zest Bakery – Just a little further south from Brinx, this is our favourite bakery. Their Portuguese tarts are a standout, and we rate them number one for pies, sausage rolls, and pasties. They also offer delicious lunch options with dine-in available. Foxy’s Bakery – Located across the road from Zest, this larger bakery has a wide selection and extended opening hours, making it a reliable choice any time of day. The Little Larder – Situated on Railway Street, just an 8-minute walk from Magnolia House, this café serves consistently great Merlo coffee alongside a wide range of breakfast and lunch options. In winter, the cosy fireside seating makes it a lovely spot to warm up while you wait. The space is fresh, inviting, and fully licensed. Pubs A stroll or drive along the main street reveals a variety of pubs, each with its own unique character. All offer classic pub fare, along with public bars, dining areas, and bottle shops. Supermarkets Woolworths, Aldi, and Spano’s IGA are all conveniently located within a couple of blocks. For easy parking and an excellent selection of deli items alongside everyday groceries, we particularly recommend the IGA. Seafood While it might not be the first thing you expect in a South West Queensland town, fresh seafood is available thanks to the Aussie Fresh Seafood truck. It arrives directly from the trawlers every Friday from 8am to 2pm, setting up behind the Central Hotel—perfect for picking up fresh, easy meal options. Markets Also on Friday mornings, the Stanthorpe farm produce markets operate within the grounds of the old train station from 7am to 1pm. Local farmers bring fresh produce including fruit and vegetables, pasture-raised eggs, honey, preserves, baked goods, and meats. Keep an eye online or on local noticeboards for additional markets, often held at the Showgrounds Hall on the main road into town. Wineries The Granite Belt wine region is home to many highly regarded wineries, spread in all directions. Starting in the north, you’ll find The Summit and Heritage wineries, then moving through Borreann, Robert Channon, and Ridgemill Estate, before reaching Ballandean and Girraween in the south, where you’ll discover Golden Grove, Ballandean Estate, Girraween, and Balancing Heart. There are many more to explore, and picking up a winery map at your first stop is a great way to plan your route. Look out for the “Strange Birds” map, highlighting wineries producing rare varieties that make up less than 1% of national wine output—perfect for trying something new and expanding your palate. Apples & Local Produce The northern area is home to most of the fruit farms. Roadside stalls offer fresh seasonal produce, perfect for your stay. Sutton’s Juice Factory is a must-visit for their famous apple pie, as well as fresh juice and cider—a local favourite with a big reputation. Girraween National Park A scenic drive south brings you to Girraween National Park, home to some of Australia’s most stunning hiking trails. Expect to see kangaroos and native wildlife along the way, along with spectacular rock formations and seasonal wildflowers. There are multiple walking tracks to suit different fitness levels, each offering incredible photo opportunities. On the way, stop by the Chocolate Shop for a coffee or hot chocolate and some locally made treats—perfect before or after your hike.
