Curlew Cottage - Peaceful Setting Stunning Views
Description
Curlew Cottage, previously a family home, is in a peaceful setting between Bruichladdich and Port Charlotte. A cosy interior with stunning sea views. Enclosed back garden (perfect for dogs & children), wood-burner, modern kitchen with dishwasher. Just 10 minutes to Bruichladdich Distillery, village shops, and coastal paths. Set back from the main road for privacy and quiet—your perfect island retreat for exploring Islay's distilleries and landscapes. The space Curlew Cottage sits in an elevated position with beautiful views across Islay's rolling countryside. This former farm steading was renovated as a family home, that feels both modern and welcoming. Set back from the coastal road at the end of a private drive, shared with two other neighboring homes, it offers peace and privacy while still being in reach of everything that makes Islay special. Ground Floor: The heart of the cottage is the spacious open dining & family room that flows into a bright sitting room with a wood-burning stove; perfect for cosy evenings after a day of distillery hopping or coastal walks. The modern kitchen is fully equipped with a dishwasher, microwave, and everything you need to prepare meals. There's a separate utility room with a washing machine, tumble dryer, and airing pulley (essential for those unpredictable island weather days!). The ground floor bathroom has a bath & shower combo, ideal for families. Upstairs: There are three comfortable bedrooms sleeping 6 in total: one super-king, one double, and one twin room. The super-king bedroom has a compact ensuite bathroom next to it. For families with young children there is a more spacious ground-floor bathroom at the other end of the cottage. The Garden: The rear walled garden is fully enclosed and secure, brilliant if you're traveling with dogs. There's a greenhouse (feel free to peek in), a garage and plenty of space for kids to play safely. Parking is generous with room for several cars at the front and side. Location & What's Nearby You're in the sweet spot between Bruichladdich and Port Charlotte, with easy access to both without the noise of being right on the main road. A 10-minute walk away is the world renowned Bruichladdich Distillery. Book ahead for whisky tours, or the Botanist gin tour for gin lovers! In addition, you will find the 'mini' village shop and post office, where you can pick up an excellent coffee, fresh toasties, and meet friendly locals. And for the intrepid 'dookers' there is a swimming beach via the coastal cycle path in the direction of Port Charlotte. A 5-minute drive or 45-minute coastal walk is Port Charlotte village, with restaurants, pubs, the Museum of Islay Life, another small shop & stunning beaches. The coastal cycle path runs between the two villages of Bruichladdich and Port Charlotte. Perfect for morning coffee runs, sunset strolls, or ambitious coastal hikes. Beaches, distilleries, and wildlife watching are all on your doorstep. What Makes Curlew Special This isn't just accommodation—it's a proper island home where you can spread out, cook proper meals, dry soggy walking gear, and let the dog snooze by the fire after beach runs. The modern kitchen makes cooking enjoyable. The quiet location means you hear birdsong, not traffic. The walled garden means dogs (and kids) can roam safely. And those views? You'll understand when you see them—especially at sunset with a dram in your hand. A Few Notes All bedrooms are upstairs. The ensuite bathroom is compact, it has a toilet, small sink and a half bath with shower overhead. Well-behaved dogs are welcome, we charge a cost of £15 per dog per stay. Bed linen and bath towels provided but please bring beach/dog towels. There is a WiFi Ring doorbell at the entrance facing the driveway for security. There are no interior cameras. There is oil-fired central heating and a wood-burner to keep you cosy and we provide you with logs for the fire. The first basket is free, further loads are £10 a basket and can be paid via a QR code. Perfect For: Couples, small families, whisky enthusiasts, walkers, wildlife watchers, groups of friends exploring Islay, anyone seeking peace and proper island living. Guest access You can use the whole of cottage except there is an annex that is being worked on. This is out of bounds and will be locked. Other things to note If you need an early check in, or a late check out, please ask. For late check outs, if you're happy to help out with the time-consuming bit, which is the washing, then our housekeeper is usually happy to come in a little later. Pets are very welcome at Curlew! We charge a Pet Fee of £15 per pet, per stay. However we have recently discovered that this fee is not always charged at the point of booking. If you are not charged a Pet Fee, please could you message us and we will send details of how to pay. Alternatively, you may receive an email from us requesting payment. Thanks heaps!
