Place to stay in Durbuy
Description
This unique and romantic accommodation is sure to win your heart. Nestled in a small village (Durbuy), it offers stunning views over the rolling hills at the foot of the Ardennes. Nearby, the winding Ourthe River adds to the charm of the landscape. Kayaking and mountain biking in the area are pure joy, and both can be easily rented close to your stay. From the house, you’ll find beautiful marked hiking trails to explore. Don’t forget to light a fire in the garden—and bring marshmallows! The space Originally part of a primary school, this space has been lovingly transformed into a home over the past few years. The renovation was carried out with deep respect for the environment, giving many elements an ecological value—using materials that would otherwise have been discarded as “leftovers” from major renovations. As a result, the house is filled with time, care, and creativity, evolving gradually with the available materials and my own creative inspiration at the time. Upon entering, you are welcomed into a bright living room with an open kitchen. From the kitchen, you step directly into the garden, where you can enjoy the tranquility and natural surroundings. A short hallway from the living room leads to the two bedrooms, bathroom, and toilet. Please note: the toilet is an eco-friendly dry toilet, meaning it does not use water. Urine is automatically diverted, so you won’t have to deal with a full bucket. For solid waste, there is a built-in container that can be easily covered with the wood shavings provided next to the toilet, ensuring a fresh scent. If you’ve never used a dry toilet before, don’t worry! It’s still just a toilet, and it’s much simpler than you might think—a small step for you, but a big one for the environment. Guest access The cottage is located at the back of the grounds of an old school. From the parking area, a private path leads to the front door. Once you step inside, everything transforms naturally. You can also enjoy a lovely garden together, with views of the rabbits, the horses in the meadow next to the garden, and the wide open landscapes. Other things to note In the largest bedroom, you will find a spacious bathtub. When you open the folding doors, it feels as though you are bathing in the heart of nature: surrounded by birdsong and gently caressed by the soft breeze that occasionally drifts through the garden. My absolute favorite spot in the house – an oasis of peace and connection with the outdoors.
