The space WELCOME TO THE ODERBRUCH This small brick cottage stands on its own in the wide-open landscape of the Oderbruch. There is no fence, nearly no immediate neighbour and hardly any traffic. Views stretch in every direction across meadows, fields and open skies. Here, there is space – and a kind of silence that has become increasingly rare. With a little luck, you may spot deer close to the property. Depending on the season, cranes and greylag geese fly overhead, birds of prey circle above the house, and a wide variety of wild birds can be observed throughout the day. The nights are equally special. Thanks to the extremely low level of light pollution, it still becomes truly dark here. On a clear night, the Milky Way is visible to the naked eye. LIVING IN THE LANDSCAPE The large glass frontage brings the surrounding landscape directly into the house. Brick, wood and natural light define the space. The interior is deliberately simple and thoughtfully arranged – a place to arrive, read, reflect or simply do nothing. A dining table and comfortable seating are provided. Guests are also welcome to enjoy a selection of books and illustrated volumes on nature, architecture and photography during their stay. Two head torches and a high-quality pair of binoculars are included for exploring the surroundings and observing wildlife. WARMTH AND THE SEASONS The house has underfloor heating, while a fireplace provides additional warmth and atmosphere. However, the roof is not insulated. When outdoor temperatures are low, the interior can therefore become noticeably cool, and occasional light draughts are possible. Woollen blankets are provided for extra comfort. This is not a hotel room with a perfectly constant temperature. It is a retreat close to nature, where the weather and changing seasons remain part of the experience. TOILET AND BATHROOM FACILITIES The private toilet is located in a separate, modern and well-maintained outbuilding approximately 15 to 20 metres from the cottage. It is used exclusively by guests. There is no shower. ARRIVING WITHOUT A CAR – PLEASE ARRANGE THIS IN ADVANCE Depending on prior arrangement, it may be possible to reach the property without your own vehicle. I can offer a personal shuttle service from Gorgast railway station for an additional fee. Please note: This service is available only with my express prior confirmation and depends entirely on my personal availability. As I provide the transfer myself and need to be at home to do so, the shuttle cannot be guaranteed and is not a standard part of the booking. Please contact me well in advance if you would like to enquire about a possible pick-up. WHO THIS PLACE IS FOR This cottage is intended for people seeking peace and quiet, who enjoy open landscapes and nature, and who are happy to embrace simplicity and a more rustic experience. Guests expecting a private bathroom inside the cottage, a shower, a very short walk to the toilet or consistent hotel-style comfort may not feel at home here. Those looking for silence, nature, simplicity and a memorable break from everyday life, however, may find exactly what they are looking for.
