The village’s charm and tranquility are in marked contrast to the bustle of the coastal resorts, yet for sea lovers, excellent beaches are just a 30-minute drive away. Myrtia is a traditional farming community surrounded by olive groves and vineyards, right in the heart of the Peza wine country. Several excellent wineries offering free wine tastings are only minutes away by car. Food lovers will also appreciate nearby tavernas and restaurants serving genuine local cuisine, from budget-friendly to gourmet. The region is famous for Cretan gastronomy, based on extra virgin olive oil and local wine.
