The space I did not grow up in Varanasi. But I chose it — deliberately, and with full understanding of what that meant. There are cities you visit, and cities that ask something of you. Varanasi asked. Local Lok is my answer. We are a Woman led boutique hostel, run by Kashi vasi. Our spacious rooms are a deliberate solace — designed to give you breathing space in one of the world’s most electric, overwhelming, magnificent cities. Art-deco interiors, local art, earthy palettes. A private bathroom and air conditioning in every room. Practically: any car or bus reaches our front door directly — no narrow lanes on arrival. We have a lift. We are equidistant from the airport, the railway station, Sarnath, and the ghats. If you’re arriving by train, alight at Platform 8 at Varanasi Junction (BNRS) — it’s the closest exit to the main road and much easier than Platform 1. Our kitchen can prepare almost anything if you order in advance — just let us know your preference the evening before. Pets are welcome at Local Lok. Our team is active 24/7 — if you are ever stuck anywhere in the city, we are a single call away. We run heritage walks in 9 languages and #LiveLocal experiences that take you beyond the ghats and into the real Varanasi. Explore the city like a local, with a local. Guests are also welcome to use all our common areas, whether you want to relax, read, or hang out with other travelers. Other things to note Local Lok is tucked inside a quiet residential lane in Shivpur, close to Sarnath — a peaceful corner of the city where you actually sleep well and aren’t jolted awake by honking or chaos. Autos and cabs are easily available, so you can get to the ghats, markets or the old city without fighting the madness of staying in it. The space leans into an earthy, characterful design — exposed brick, warm lighting and a relaxed, boutique vibe. It isn’t a modern hotel look, and that’s exactly the charm. The rooftop café stays open through the day until late evening, making it a cosy spot to unwind, read, or grab something quick. WiFi is strong and consistent, making Local Lok ideal for workcations or longer stays. Parking is available. All rooms are smoke-free, with a designated outdoor smoking area. Early check-in and late check-out are subject to availability, but the team is flexible and tries to help whenever possible.
