Description
Leeurivier is the perfect getaway 50km South West of Beaufort West. There is only one bush camp, The Veldhuis, which is flanked by two dry rivers and several koppies (Karoo Mountains). Leeurivier offers a multitude of game. We have created an atmosphere where families, fathers and sons, couples and families can bond while having an unforgettable time. Leeurivier offers a multitude of game – Giraffe, Zebra, Kudu, Eland, Oryx, Black and Blue Wildebees, Red Hartebees, Blesbok, Springbuck, Duiker, Steenbok, Ostrich and the smaller veld inhabitants like hare and mongoose. Bird life is abundant. You will wake up to the sound of guinea fowl before going out to spot the pair of Black eagle and other birds of prey, Kori Bustard - the heaviest flying bird, Korhaan and Mountain geese. Enough wood will be provided, with more for sale. (Don’t waste this scarce energy source.) The Veldhuis has a shower and a bathroom and is fully furnished, with an outside and indoor braai as well as inside fireplace. Braai utensils, grids and black pots are available. The kitchen is equipped with utensils, gas stove and fridges. Bring your own food, condiments and beverages. Although brackish, the Karoo water is drinkable and very healthy. Bedding and towels is supplied. Bring only toiletries and a torch. The farm borders on the Karoo National Park – five hours drive from Cape Town, between Leeu Gamka and Beaufort West. Maps are available. Possible activities – free of charge - include mountain biking and walking. You can of course, choose to do nothing, and just relax and enjoy the crisp air and solitude of the Karoo. Real Karoo lamb is available for sale. Order in advance, to enjoy while there or to take home with you. It is a self-catering unit. Cleaning can be pre-arranged at a cost. Situated in KOUP 4 area of central Karoo, 40km from entrance of Karoo National Park. 50km from Beaufort West town. No need for a 4x4, it is a good dirt road. Electricity is supplied by solar power and gas. No plugs are available, so leave your laptops and cell phones at home. For those in need, there is cell phone reception on a koppie near the camp.
