Located on the quiet coast of Mukaihigashi, Kokochi is a restored 100-year-old Japanese home offered as a private whole-house stay. Wake to soft morning light and birdsong. Explore nearby islands by rental e-bike or enjoy the calm of the Seto Inland Sea on a SUP tour. At night, relax by a fire under the stars and feel the warmth of this historic home. Cats are welcome. We value comfort, quiet, and authenticity, offering a peaceful place to breathe deeply and feel the gentle spirit of Onomichi. Guest access The property includes a main house and a detached annex, but the accommodation provided for guests is the main house, Kokochi. The annex is a staff-only area, so please refrain from entering it. The main house is reserved entirely for your private use. You are welcome to freely enjoy all areas, including the entrance, kitchen, bathroom, garden, and more. Other things to note 🛏 Bedrooms and Capacity Kokochi can accommodate up to 10 guests, but the most comfortable stay is for about 6 people. On the first floor, there is a bedroom with two single beds, perfect for two guests to sleep comfortably. The second floor has a tatami room where about four guests can sleep comfortably with futons. Additional guests can stay, but for a spacious and relaxing stay, we recommend around six guests. The dining table seats four people comfortably. For groups of five or more, we can provide an additional table and chairs upon request. At Kokochi, you can enjoy a stay where “past and present” harmoniously blend. The first floor combines traditional features with modern convenience, offering nostalgia with comfort. On the second floor, to help you experience life as it once was, there is no air conditioner. In summer, a traditional fan is provided, and in winter, a kerosene heater offers warmth, allowing you to feel the wisdom and lifestyle of the past.
