Tranquil Cottage nestled in the Sussex countryside
Description
Nestled deep within forest and heathland, our charming 4-bedroom cottage built c.1700 is a delightful cosy retreat full of character and history. If you are looking for a quiet family getaway or a relaxing time with friends, this is the perfect place for you! We are also doggie friendly so four-legged friends are welcome too. The space Set well-back off a quiet country lane and surrounded by ancient hedgerow, our traditional Sussex-style cottage provides both tranquility and privacy from the outside world. Original wooden beams and timeless features create a warm and inviting atmosphere throughout. The ground floor offers a cosy living room with sofas and a traditional inglenook fireplace. In the centre of the fireplace is a glass fronted log burning stove and plenty of logs are provided for those warm evenings by the fire. Together with a smart TV, it makes the perfect spot to unwind after a day exploring the surrounding countryside. The fully equipped kitchen and pantry have everything you need to whip up a cooked breakfast or full Sunday roast, while the dining area provides the ideal setting for long, memorable dinners with your family and friends. Also on the ground floor is the family bathroom with a roll top bath for that well-deserved, relaxing long soak. Our cottage caters for up to 8 guests, the ground floor has two double bedrooms, one with twin beds and the second has a king-sized bed with an en-suite bathroom. On the first floor, you’ll find two further bedrooms and a third bathroom with walk-in shower. The spacious master bedroom has a king-sized bed, another wood burning stove and panoramic views of the Ashdown Forest. Across the landing is a second bedroom with a double bed and built-in eve cupboard storage. Outside Step outside to enjoy the 1.5 acre, landscaped garden, with a large (fenced) pond and bog garden where our family of newts live. The garden has also been securely fenced to keep pets and small children in and the deer out! Adjoining the garden is our paddock where you will see deer grazing most evenings and if you’re very lucky you may even see the white hart in residence (please note that the paddock is not securely fenced). French doors lead on to a paved patio area with outdoor dining furniture to enjoy an al fresco meal in complete privacy or a morning coffee surrounded by nature. Walk past the brick summer house, which can double up as a children’s playroom, and up a few steps to the covered dining and BBQ area decked out with outdoor sofas and fairy lighting. This area faces directly west, so it’s the perfect place to languish in the afternoon sun, whilst viewing stunning scenery and sunsets. There is direct walking access from the cottage on to the Ashdown Forest, home to Winnie-the-Pooh and memorable places like the bridge where he played Pooh Sticks. The Ashdown Forest is approximately 6,500 acres (2,600 hectares) or 10 square miles in size and is one of the largest open access areas in the South East. The surrounding countryside is yours to explore, with miles of scenic walks on your doorstep. In less than a 45 minute drive, there is the South Downs National Park, Beachy Head, the historic town of Lewes and seaside city of Brighton & Hove. The Spa town of Royal Tunbridge Wells is only a 20 minute drive and has a beautiful parade of boutiques, bars and cafes in the Georgian colonnaded walkway of The Pantiles. Whether you’re looking for a tranquil escape to relax or somewhere to discover the charms of East Sussex, this enchanting cottage offers the perfect base to relax and explore.
