Cycling and walking on the quiet country roads and tracks are popular pastimes with the Borders Abbey Way, the Southern Upland Way and lots of local walks, like the Eildon Hills near Melrose to name a few. Glentress cycle trails with bike hire available, is great for the energetic. In Melrose Robert the Bruce’s heart lies buried in the grounds of the ancient Abbey. There are delightful shops, restaurants, pubs and gardens to discover. Sir Walter Scott’s Abbotsford House is nearby on the River Tweed.
