Bears Cottage is situated in the centre of a private 200 acre woodland - the only dwelling within the wood. Built in the 1850's, the house has just been fully restored. Guests can enjoy the surrounding woodland & over 10 miles of tracks within it during their stay. Bears Cottage's isolation gives it absolute peace and privacy, a chance to escape the busy world in which we live with the Norfolk Coastline only 8 miles away. Please enquire for short break pricing options. Bears Cottage was built in 1856 as a Woodman's house for workers on the Holkham Estate. The 2nd Earl of Leicester was a large collector of tree species and the woodland was used as an experimental plot for many different species of tree new to the country. Many of these still stand today and are some of the largest of their species in the country for example Giant Redwoods and Noble Firs. The woodland is home to a large number of bird and animal species. The Cottage has been restored throughout 2016 to give it everything required for a modern high standard holiday let. Bike rental is also available - see below for details. Guest access Bears Cottage and its surrounding woodland are yours to explore for the duration of your stay. Please be mindful of the nature around you and do not pick up anything found in the woodland or damage any trees or wildlife. Foraging is not permitted nor is the use of any timber found in the woodland for fires inside or outside the property. Guests are only permitted to drive on the single entrance route from the road to the property, other tracks in the woodland are restricted for vehicles.
