Unwind in this lovely stone-built salmon fishing bothy, close to the NC500, Nigg and the Orkney Ferry route, insulated to the modern spec, with traditional stone and vaulted ceilings. Close to Balintore harbour and Shandwick Bay, the restored airy cottage benefits from a sheltered yard, from which you can base your North Highland explorations, go for lovely coastal walks and interact with the locals. 2 minutes from the local shop, the garden area feels peaceful and secluded. The space The cosy kitchen/living area is bright, open plan, with a woodburner for windswept evenings, a log basket, compact modern kitchen comprising fridge, microwave, dishwasher, oven, hob, kettle, toaster, espresso coffee maker and smoke detectors. There is Wi-Fi. Insulated to the modern specification, there is a 2 seater sofa, a modern velvet wing chair, along with an Ercol table, 2 dining chairs and coffee table. The ceiling is vaulted, with veluxes, while fisherman’s lanterns provide the main lighting. The floor is laminated, with a chunky jute rug. The bathroom has an extra large walk-in mains water fed shower with fixed and mobile shower heads, toilet, mirror, shaver socket and sink. You will find a washing machine, and utility items, tucked away in the hall cupboard. The bedroom has a wardrobe, fisherman’s lanterns, bedside lockers, USB charging point, modern electric Tilley lamps and black metal super king size bed, with a window to the patio area and velux windows providing additional light. Solar velux blinds provide room darkening. There are electric heaters throughout. Main local supermarkets can deliver to the cottage. An electric charging point is available at Balintore Hotel. EV charging is not permitted in the cottage as it poses a fire risk. Waken up to the sound of the sea. Explore the Seaboard villages, look for groatie buckies, and, as the cottage is situated close to a working harbour, in season you might even be able to swing a deal with a creel fisherman for a fresh crab or lobster! Guest access The gated yard affords privacy and shelter. You can sit and relax on the decked area - a sun trap on sunny days! A gravelled parking area lies to the front. Alternatively, you can arrive by boat or canoe! Other things to note It can be noisy during a storm, due to the bothy’s proximity to the sea and harbour wall.
